The non-Apple gadget thread

Even I’ll admit there’s cool shit out there that Apple doesn’t make.

I’ll start with the new Logitech Harmony remote.

I love my Harmony One remote but this new one looks like some serious next level shit. My only issue is with the touch screen when I’m laying down it’s not a good viewing angle to both aim the remote and press the right region of the screen. For that reason I wish they would add a signal beam to the bottom so you could be looking directly at in a vertical position and it would still send out a registering signal.

Hm, not sure if I like the buttons located at the top of the remote either. Seems like you could go to hit one and accidently trigger something on the touch screen too.

If nothing else, I like the concept of having icons for channels that can be rearranged in any order.

How are they not going to be slapped with a lawsuit for those close(x) buttons?
Christ it looks like a straight up rip except they upped the brightness a little.

or,
I see what you did there.

Either way, apart from touchscreen, it looks like it was made in the 90s.

yeah, i think RCA has a patent on using triangles to represent "play" it's either them or Zenith. someone must pay!!

also i have a Samsung remote that is the same shape. this is clearly a patent infringement.

You're joking that a certain company has never won a lawsuit over that kind of thing?

I'm appalled at this thread.

And it should be non-Apple, shouldn't it?

:x

I see Apple’s long shadow is still reaching this thread. :x

So here we go. There was an Apple patent awhile back where you’d be able to take a picture of any remote with your iPhone. It would then query a database in the cloud and then put a digital image of that remote on the touch screen that would have the same functionality as the remote you took a picture of. 8O

I think the big holdup on that is all devices attached to the remote would have to be able to be controlled over wifi. :x

Now that you mention it I vaguely remember that.

The Nokia Lumia 920 looks pretty cool. However, severe iPhone withdrawl would kick in if I were forced to use one of these for mare than a day.

How do you sync your media (music, movies, TV shows) on a portable device that isn’t made by Apple?

you don't have to sync. every other device on the planet will let you move it if you want to.
