I just watched the complete Cashern Sins - it was great, weird anime!

Good Anime, a little depressing at times.
If you haven't seen the live action movie yet you should check it out. Visual eye candy and a fantastic soundtrack (score) as well.
One of my favorite films.
On a side note, the same director did another movie in the same style as Casshern (CGI) called "Goemon" which is also an awesome movie.

SOUTHLAND TALES

I just watched 'Southland Tales' for the first time.

It is one of the most astonishing films I have seen in a very long time. HIGHLY recommended.

Casshern the animation reminds me of "Android Kikaider The Animation." It has that same kind of gloominess to it.
As far as Casshern the live action goes I'm not sure what movie it would be on par with. It kind of stands on its own. It is one of those movies that I can watch over and over again and never get tired of. One of my favorite scenes in the movie is when a soldier brings a message to Cassherns Mother about her son.
It's pretty deep.

Just started watching the theatrical cut of Southland Tales after watching the Cannes cut. It does spell things out more clearly.
I can agree with the some reasons for it's negative reception but those are minor to how I like it overall. I like the casting and it's great to see some old faces too:p. At first in the Cannes cut I thought the voiceover was a woman until Timberlake entered the picture. He sounds like a guy in the theatrical cut but the voiceover is still annoying.

ok, but serious reason for me posting is to ask if anyone has seen the radio free albemuth adaptation done a few years ago. It has Alanis Morrisette (LOL) as Sadassa. the trailer makes it look like it might actually be ok (but also might be shit) I'm always hoping for another GOOD adaptation of a Dick book. That guy is pretty much the best SF writer ever, hard to argue.

I had the fortune of chatting to Tessa Dick recently (Phil's final wife). She's as hatstand as he is, and has written about her experiences. She co-wrote A scanner darkly. If you get the chance to, drop her a few dollars into her paypal as she's not in a good way due to a crippling illness that stopped her from working - at one point she was at risk of being kicked out of her home because the rights to PKD's books all belong to his kids who aren't exactly fans of Tessa. She's a nice lady though.
