Mmmmmmm let me think... Here are some good ones not sure about all time but here we go...

Still soaking in but Prometheus was good!
The original Alien for sure
Obvious but Star Wars (I always loved empire strikes back the best)
moon was awesome
I have to say Matrix (original)

Colossus - The Forbin Project (1970) has a great proto-Skynet story, epic ending, hilarity, lush blonde and some awesome sound work. Which is like, everything really.

No one's mentioned one of the most fucked up sci fi films out there-

eXistenZ

And although I don't count it amongst my favorites, now's a good a time and place to get this off my chest-

The first Star Trek film was the best. Yeah, you heard me.

Dude Star Trek is just the best.

I downloaded a load of the first series with some pre Shatner stuff and it's just brilliant.

I showed my bitch Star Wars (ep IV) for the first time last week (she's 22, I'm a perv, don't judge me), and she found it hilarious. I never realised, having grown up with the flick, just how silly Vader comes off as. My favourite of her comments: "His voice is too high pitched for him to be impressive. And he needs to speak more slowly".

1. Bladerunner
2. Jurassic Park
3. Ghostbusters
4. Alien 3
5. Futurama s01e01

I don't rate Matrix, Star Trek at all.

I really liked it too. It's actually an excellent metaphor for young adulthood & just 'playing the game'. Cronenberg is truly one of the great directors working in sci-fi/horror.

You may be right! It's certainly the closest in spirit to genuine sci-fi, as opposed to action/sci-fi or pure Trekkie fan fare. And director Robert Wise is no stranger to high caliber sci-fi. I really want to see it again.

I have a special fondness for Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country It is probably the darkest of the Star Trek films, with Kirk showing a surprising mean streak.

I also want to see Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan again too, becasue my most trusted sci-fi critic rates it the highest of the Star Trek films (& he really know his stuff!)

I recently saw Star Trek: Insurrection & found it to be one of the better Next Generation flicks.

Oh, & by the way... Piccard rules.

Wrath of Khan is surely the best of the films.

Can't believe anyone can dislike the original series....

 Classic. True that a lot of star wars love is mainly due to happy memories.

Very underrated, imo. Follows the basic theme of the original very well- a group of incredibly talented actors arguing a lot and being killed in gruesome ways. I kind of meant that in a good way.

Indeed. Alien 3 is my favorite of the lot. It is the darkest of all the Alien films.

The first few minutes cruelly negate all the achievements of Aliens, & by the end it has negated virtually everything.... It is truly magnificent.

Fixed. Mike had a decent list, but he seems to be having sequel confusion.

Not mentioned so far but worthy of note:

Sunshine - ridiculous concept, but loads of style and atmosphere.
Solaris - I liked the Clooney version, shockingly

lol, you know i think i was confused. Didn't see Sunshine. Someone told me about Solaris and it sounds like a very intriguing concept.

Meanwhile, when is the movie night at 3dots?

Another obscure, intelligent sci-fi gem:
The Lathe of Heaven
