H2Only. Your attitude will probably screw your kids up more than them seeing a gay parade, but don't let that worry you.

Careless spelling is not something you want to pass to your offspring is it?

Funken you and your threats are waaayyyyy over board.
Before you came along no one threatened law suits, nor pulling of threads. A lot of people on here may seem to be immature but, if you have a sense of humor you will see its just them making jokes. Some of your shit on the other hand is blatantly childish.

Summary of the whole debate bellow.
Great posts, both of you.

If you were kept in a cage for 20 years don't you think you'd run around going apeshit for a bit (like the Sheen breakdown)? Now, airhumping in front of someones face, especially kids, that's just bad judgement; expect some retaliation. But no I don't think you're a nudophobe, I see your point. But just for one day, for an hour or two, let em spread their wings. Unless gay pride parades sprout out of nowhere willy nilly then there's a chance you have time to plan to avoid it, with your family. A perfect time to go see Shrek 12. Can't really generalize about mothers to girlfriends, I'd assume most of them would be happy for them, except in the bible belt. If you don't want to get hit, don't sit in the front row (curb).
agreed.

i just think there are better places to spread your wings than a public street. the notion of protests or pride marches being helped by this behavior seems to me to be reaching a bit.

What's amazing is can say that you come across as patronizing and you still try to "educate"!
Again this makes it appear that you don't give a shit about anyone else's opinion on the subject but your own..

Tell me then. Let's pretend I am a bible bashing anti-gay Christian fundamentalist. I say gay marriage is wrong because it says so in the bible.

Give me your atheist argument against that.
It's bible thumping you're referring to here I'm going to assume.
I think you know what I would say, that the bible is the word of god, and where can I sign your petition kind sir!

I would say that's your belief, and it's held on faith, which is great for things like your lover acting in your interests, not cheating on you etc. but isn't something that I could base a law on. So I won't be voting for the same things you are.
Again, not having the same faith as another person in terms of religion is not denying their right to hold to a belief that isn't based in anything tangible. Essentially you're coming across with your dialectic as if the conversation was based on tangible elements. God cannot be denied if he does not exist, only the belief in god can be questioned. So framing the conversation with sentences like, "Atheists try to prove god doesn't exist."
does two things: it tells the reader that god exists and that atheists are denying this tangible thing.
I get and understand the need to keep the debate about religion out of politics until the human condition improves enough to where it's not even necessary, but the need to frame atheists and outspoken critics of religion as pig headed zealots is absurd political posturing in my opinion.

Again, here's the real tangible difference between atheists and the spiritual and religious crowd:
If there was testable scientific proof of god and a spirit world, almost every atheist would accept it. If there was testable scientific proof that there was no god or spirit world, almost every religious person would deny it, no matter how solid the evidence was.

Now tell me, which crowd is more prone to assaultive aggressive assertion of their beliefs?

I can get a bit miffed at all the safety we need to put in all of our lives for the sake of children. Not pointed at you H20nly but at a lot of peeps who are over the top with everything for the kids. Lots of ott parents use that as a vehicle for all kinds of personal affronts into others lives. I'm not a parent, but if i were, my opinion wouldn't change. Many parents agree regardless. Public is exactly that, public. Everybody. Free. So good thing we have that on our streets. "The man" doesn't want that stuff on the streets either, so we gotta keep that stuff on the streets. The USA should be a little scary for all americans at the amount of freedom there actually is ;)

As far as some of the postings on this thread, I skimmed it as best i could but It's damn ok for people to be ignorant about gay people. They are not familiar, but they want to discuss. Great. Even if its baiting, it's usually a tick up for social progress. What many ignorant/learning people say today on the race/gender thang doesn't matter so much as where they once were on the subject. "Not getting it right" should not be the object of criticism of those who get it wrong from trying. If a poster has said something ignorant while reaching out in any way, it shows a certain kind of public courage on the subject. Unless you're some kind of introverted secret chain-pulling troll. Possibly a few here, hehe. Obviously some people here are more artful in their ability to express their experience. Others are awkward and have none, but their level of respect could be equal. "Meaning well" is most definitely progress and welcomed.

agreed. i can too.

i don't agree with the whole notion of using a child as a human shield, but without them we would not be here. the one thing that all of humanity has in common is that we were once children, regardless of what we have become. children are innocent, just as we once were.

If it was legal to go naked most people wouldn't just because it's nicer with clothes on in cold places.

And even underpants are quite useful - imagine shitting yourself with no undies on - very nasty.

And if you get a hard-on then your old man will flail around and be vulnerable to getting chopped off.

I am keeping my pants on.

You need to read peoples posts a little closely and less for your spin.
The part in bold for your consideration.
Machinesworking wrote: Beats, H2, you both live near the epicenter of gay rights in the states. Not internally acknowledging that your opinion on this might be tainted by that is making you come across as metro level homophobes.
I may be a blunt motherfucker, but I'm not a name caller, and H2O isn't a bad person or a homophobe, at least if he is, it's about as mild of a case as you can get. Simply put I will rarely go for ad homonym attacks even if the other person does. Though I'm not averse to calling your ideas or writing style out.

This was a good post, shame you have to start watering it down now with all your ass kissing to H2Only

You never said he is a homophobe, I never said he is. But what he said was kinda stupid as your post clearly states and I agreed with.

End of discussion.
No, it's not. You need to lighten up and stop acting like everything that you write is some sort of holy scripture that we plebs must obey.

In no way is acknowledging the points of others ass kissing. I can assure you 100 fucking percent that H20 does not think I'm kissing his ass by agreeing with his rational in one post. Unlike you I do not think of any of you whom I have not met in person as being my friends or enemies, we're just having a conversation, that's all. I've more than once said I agreed with your posts, and I've vehemently disagreed as well. That's called being rational. To you it seems it means I'm being either a troll or an ass kisser. Now which position do you think is more mentally balanced? Hmmm?

This is why you've gotten heat from Ableton mods here, not because you're this bastion of radical politics and knowledge, but because you spin every conversation with this patronizing bullshit that detracts from the conversation and pisses people off. It is quiet ironic that one of your hero's Trotsky was also well known for being socially awkward and obtuse.

Trotsky is pretty cool though I do give you that.

I am not patronizing, you just like to say I am because sometimes I don't agree with you.

Patronizing means "treat with an apparent kindness which betrays a feeling of superiority". When am I ever kind?
Lol, you can't control yourself!
Also, you're using the built in Apple definition checker as an authority.
What's kind of beautiful is you didn't even deny the "betrays a feeling of superiority" part of it.
That is what I was referring to, you're inability to simply talk to other people here as equals.
You constantly frame things like you're in a position of authority above others.
Doesn't say a whole hell of a lot about your ability to actually practice socialism.

I don't mind at all that you disagree with me, I mind that you can't treat me or others as equals. :|

Yes, and people like to conveniently forget all that in favor of constant exaggerations of Stalin's already brutal record.
It's not unlike framing the French revolution solely by Napoleon.

This is not a sentence. Is it? If it is, I don't understand it.
Christ? are you drunk? Not only are you trying to tear down the part of my reply that I'm essentially agreeing with your post, but you're obviously not following what I'm saying.

People like to conveniently forget that initially the Russian revolution included a lot a great ideas in favor of looking at it only from the point where Stalin took over.

It's not unlike taking the French Revolution and denying it as a social movement because Napoleon came to power afterwards.

..or denying the American Revolution had political significance because of the genocidal practices of the government towards the natives.
