Hahahah i love how he would randomly touch the turn tables just barely, making it even more obvious he wasnt doing anything.
Re: And people say DJs just stand there pretending to do things
it definitely took me a couple seconds to realize, there were no cables coming out of the back of his mixer/decks.

Old man statement ahead, but American Bandstand and Solid Gold. Hugely successful American shows in the 80's and prior to that featured top charting artists playing "live" with not one damn instrument plugged in. I'm sure globally the same type show was going on.eddiex wrote:it definitely took me a couple seconds to realize, there were no cables coming out of the back of his mixer/decks.
And not to give a pass to all DJs and performers who fake it on stage, but it's pretty damn difficult to be in the moment feeling it on stage and only toy with things when it's having an actual effect. I submit the practice of air guitaring into evidence.

That's nothing most artists today are lip syncing or to a pro tools rig backstage.
You are paying for a "live" concert when in fact your getting a partially live/karaoke performance.

beats... i think what is so funny about this video, is how blatant it is. they seemed to fake it better back then or something (though i bet most non musician's/djs would probably not even notice.) all that being said....check out my favorite fake out video> nirvana doing teen spirit on top of the pops!!> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0MzeMfcGxA

Pretty small fry compared to milli vanilli's downfall.
Actually the faking doesn't bother me too much, even though he does look a bit of a twat. It's the fact he's faking a DJ mix to a single song. Why not dick around with a keyboard controller? Because it looks cooler to pretend to DJ?

Wow I feel embarrassed for the Serbians

I dunno what's funnier - the guy miming, or the comments from people taking it WAY too seriously.
Apparently the song is about a DJ. She's saying how much she likes him, or some such. He's just there to represent that.
If the song was about a horse, would people insist that there was a real horse in the studio?
If it was about a racing driver, would he need to be sitting in a real car, driving it around the studio?

I can't say too much but I know that a very, very large and famous mainstream band who play with a Vocals/guitar/bass/drums setup ...They mime to a prerecorded set when they play arenas. This is not an "electronic" band in any way at all. I was surprised how common this is.
I find it pathetic.

i saw COLDPLAY once, and our seats were so that, you could see back stage behind the speakers. those guys have an extra guitarist that plays from back there, hidden out of sight.Angstrom wrote:Yes.Vivo wrote:That's nothing most artists today are lip syncing or to a pro tools rig backstage.

I was sworn to silence by somebody. So I couldn't say more than I have on this.
