The REAL musician behind the Doors....and the one who kept a loose leash on Morrison until he couldn't.

So it goes...

“... it was just to make an average listener go: ‘What the fuck is this?’ That’s a real inspiration for me and something that I will explore more on upcoming recordings.”
- Wally De Backer (Gotye) quoting Ween's intention behind making records

ABC tv here in oz have an all night music video show after midnight and tonight they showed Ray Manzarek and Danny Sugarman hosting the show. I got quite a shock at first because I missed the opening credit where it said this show was from 1997!!!!! I thought either I was seeing a ghost, or the news that Ray Manzarek had died was just a rumour.

The show was a tribute and showed a whole bunch of rare Doors footage introduced with much great story telling by Ray and Danny about what was going on around the times. And it brought it fully home that Ray was gone. Such a nice guy as well as being a great musician and founder of The Doors.

This song (Ghost Song) was recorded by the remaining members a few years after Jim died, with a recording of Jim reciting some of his poetry over the music...with footage from a movie he was making which was never released making up the video. Ray commented that this is how the Doors would write songs: Jim would come in with lyrics and he would sing it softly a cappella to the band and they would start playing and write the music just the way they recorded this song.Great stuff. 8)
