I keep hearing about how "it's much stronger than it used to be", but I'd like to ask how can they know this, Are there many old samples perfectly preserved for them to compare against? Can anyone honestly say that they can accurately recall a subjective experience from 30 years ago? what research is it based on exactly?

It's got the smell of bullshit about it.

And even if it is stronger, all you need to do is use less.

I think it's more about the balance between cbd and thc

surely constant selective breeding will have an accumulated effect

and hydroponics probably got more involved over time

yeah, but tolerance comes into play here...

also, if you're selling and smoking weed by the gram vs. by the joint you end up in the same place. where i grew up in south Texas the quality wasn't as good, but the quantity was through the roof... people don't get less high due to this... they just get more resin.

I live in Seattle, what is this low quality shit you speak of? Is that a new Indica strain?

Yes the "quality is better today" is false(sort of).

Back in the 1980's the quality was much more varied.Perhaps more varied for me because I'm from NY where the weed came from many sources.General purpose commercial stuff was indeed less powerful than most general purpose commercial stuff today. However I remember having Thai, Hawaiian and Afghan that was comparable to anything today.A recent trip to Thailand was like Deja vu and confirmed the quality was awesome and not just nostalgia on my part.

Also imported hash was much more common.Although the quality varied drastically some was very potent indeed.

Older folks than me have confirmed the situation was the same in the 60's and 70's.

I think I'd rather rely on scientific measurements of THC percentage than on the memory of stoners. haaaaaaaaaha.

I can confirm this!

I remember a housemate from 'back in the day' who was selling hash oil. for personal use he would break open a cap or two of hash oil and rub it into his tobacco. Smoking a joint with him was like a stoner lottery...if you hit a 'ball' of oil in the tobacco when smoking from his 'tobacco' you would be so stoned it was like an out of body experience. So, the weed was often mild but there were other derivatives which definitely were not.

At this point I feel compelled to point out a very real fact:All people that Smoke weed are not "stoners" in as much that all people that consume alcohol are not "alcoholics".

I smoke occasionally.I don't smoke every day nor all day when I do.I don't need to I just like to sometimes.
When I do I've found it can break down walls in my thinking that leads to new possibilities.

The main reason I posted the Carl Sagan Mr X essay is to demonstrate the fact that some great, accomplished people consume weed. I've been in the Music Business over 20 years and have met many great(some of the best) musicians who like to smoke once in awhile.
