When a comedian/actor who has been living in LA for years is more in touch with the people of the UK than its politicians, then something has to change.

Curious how this little bit of media fluff has got so much attention. I guess the timing is right. Bring it on! :x

I especially like the way he tries to tie profit to deficit, as if it were impossible to create wealth.

I think the fact that people believe wealth is "created" is a recipe for economic crashes and disparity in the first place.
On some level new discoveries create wealth, whether it be through better larger sales outlets, new raw materials, cheaper better products and productivity etc. The clincher there is a percentage of people lose wealth when the same things take place. So how much new wealth is created and how much is just moving from one persons pocket to the next? or simply exaggerated? The inflated sense of prosperity that happens in the modern working capitalist systems is a huge problem in my opinion.

Brilliant!!! I so agree with Russel Brand. A grass roots revolution will happen...but it won't be like a sudden surge of people on the streets...it will be more like a withdrawal of support for the current economic systems via consumers withdrawing from spending. Oh wait...look around the world and look at consumption spending figures! Not a temporary phenomenon but a change in behaviour in the developed world since the GFC. :-)

Those of us who depend on liquid assets (cash) actually lose in a low interest environment. Look at interest offered on savings. This is the 'crisis of Capitalism' which is gradually emerging. It is like an exponential curve: we have begun the climb up the final sharp rise. The GFC wasn't the catharsis...the final cathartic conclusion will be in a slow motion collapse in confidence of consumers (most of us) and a return to local production and consumption of goods and services (already happening). This is especially true in the 'essential services' areas like food, energy etc. Just my studied opinion/observation.

Silly funken.

Wealth is created by very clever, hard working, smartly dressed men moving numbers around.

If they weren't creating wealth for everyone, why would they be so fabulously well paid? Durr.

People who make and build stuff only do it to try and get a little of the action created by their betters. They should be happy they have anything. Ingrates.

A lot of people seem to want a revolution or at least a change but when I personally ask them to get involved with something even as simple as becoming unionized they back out.
People at work told me that they were scared to lose their jobs if they tried to form a union.
I think what these people are saying is "I would like the benefits of a revolution but I am too scared to get involved".
I can sympathize and I often wonder what I would do myself. Evolution tells you to avoid danger, I also wonder if the more evolved of us would be the cowards running for the woods.
Then I think 'There is a problem with running to the woods though, Its now illegal to live completely free and off the land.
So its almost to the point of a forced revolution.

You're only talking about a worker's revolution based upon Marx. Bit of a narrow-minded view and far from forward thinking.

Socialism/communism does not require leadership. That is nothing more than a con of the workers.

I'm encouraged by the fact that the internet revolution has involved no "isms" or violence. May all future revolutions be as peaceful and successful.

No, that's 'value'.
