If you are going to Kiel (or was it Bremen?!), you are in the wrong part of the country for that (but only for that). If you'd go to Bavaria though, your expectations would be surprisingly close to realityandydes wrote:Well the time is right to go, before those people who do that thing we're not supposed to talk about pull us out of the EU.
Think I've got about a year to find a someone like this before they drag me back kicking and screaming to where the only respected job is moving money around so no one else can see it. Well, that and TV chefs.
I assume every German woman wanders round in strange clothes carrying large amounts of beer, like all the pictures, right?

Re: Germans
Should I feel racially offended, because every thead mentioning Germans ends with a discussion of beer and a picture of someone in a Dirndl or short leather pants?!
We are so much more than just beer (and war )

Re: Germans
I was just taking a digg at some asian people apparently being offended by being portraied as martial arts masters with zen like calm and funny accents in a popular TV series.slatepipe wrote:Yeah, true. Your beer is fucking good though

IOW, I'm not even remotely offended by those German stereotypes. And who doesn't like good beer?!
And Einstürzende Neubauten was almost correctly spelt

Well, of course- there's also techno, efficiency, and sausages.TomViolenz wrote:Should I feel racially offended, because every thead mentioning Germans ends with a discussion of beer and a picture of someone in a Dirndl or short leather pants?!

That's better than our reputation- a country of single teen mums with crooked smiles throwing up outside a kebab shop at 3 in the morning.
You get famous for your beer, we get famous for downing it.
Sometimes we get credited with a decent sense of humour, but when you have bad teeth and a failing liver, you might as well laugh at the world.
But the country that marked one of the defining moments in world history by inviting David Hasselhoff to sing for freedom goes to the top of my list of places to be.
Germany ftw

On the topic of national image and reputation, the Finn will maintain a discreet silence.

Re: Germans
Well, if you wanted to insult them you could call them Dutchmen. But they're from Cape Town.

Re: Germans
I think I should give some context for my remark. When I made that post, I had just read that there was a storm in a tea cup brewing (AKA Twitter) about alleged racism in the series "How I met your mother" because apparently Asiens were stereotyped in one episode as being great in martial arts, always have a wise, but incomprehensible nugget to share and have a funny accent. I literaly rolled my eyes!andydes wrote:Well, of course- there's also techno, efficiency, and sausages.TomViolenz wrote:Should I feel racially offended, because every thead mentioning Germans ends with a discussion of beer and a picture of someone in a Dirndl or short leather pants?!

Germany ftw
I'm all for not being racist and all, but shit, stereotypes exist and they are FUNNY
BTW: Did you assume there was some post modern irony involved in having David Hasselhoff sing "I'm looking for freedom" at the New Years party 1990 at the Wall?! Oh, how I wish it would be so....
And this stain on our otherwise perfectly good stereotype record, will never go away I'm afraid
Well, that and the war, I guess
