Today’s police show restraint

Post by beats me » Fri Oct 10, 2014 2:00 pm

On John Africa and his MOVE organization back in the 80’s.
Glassey, after being found in possession of weapons, was later arrested; he implicated Africa and other MOVE members in various crimes. On July 23, 1981 in the Philadelphia federal court, Africa and his co-defendant Alfonso Africa (representing themselves) were tried and acquitted on weapons and conspiracy charges by a jury that deliberated for almost six days. Law enforcement officials obtained indictments on the implicated members of MOVE and, on May 13, 1985, attempted to arrest them, which led to an armed standoff with MOVE and a subsequent raid by the Philadelphia Police Department. During the raid, Africa was killed along with six other adults and four children when the Philadelphia Police Department head of bomb disposal, on board a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter, dropped a satchel containing a gel-based explosive on a fortified bunker occupied by members of MOVE. The resulting explosion started a fire that resulted in the destruction of 53 homes in the neighborhood. The order was given by city officials to "Let the Fire Burn.". The explosion, fire, and shootout killed all but two members of MOVE who were present, leaving Ramona and Birdie Africa severely burned. Birdie was released while Ramona went on to serve her maximum sentence of 7 years in prison.

That's right, the police dropped a bomb from a helicopter on a house in a neighborhood which destroyed most of the neighborhood. Official response: Worth it!

That's some serious victim blaming too, if they send her half burned ass for 7 years to prison on top of it 8O

On top of that there was a kid in the house (a neighborhood house, not a compound in bumfuck) who survived and testified that there were police with automatic guns behind the house shooting at anybody trying to exit the fire.

And no police or government officials were prosecuted for anything.

Did you see that Let The Fire Burn doc recently?

That was almost 30 years ago. Or are you subliminally trying to tell someone to MOVE

I heard about it from a podcast that covers fucked up or hilarious moments/people in US history.

Another podcast covered 10 cent beer night at a major league ball game in the 70’s and you can imagine what chaos that caused. :)

Another was about how during George Washington’s time just about everybody did dentistry as a side job and he pretty much had a primitive robot borg mouth when he died. :)

The podcast is called The Dollop. Highly recommended.

I’m curious to see how the MOVE documentary paints the situation because the majority of The Dollop is about what a nut job John Africa and his followers were. If they tried the same shananigans today they would be in prison long before the police bombed their house.

So hopefully the documentary isn’t entirely liberal propaganda about police and government overreacting. Ironically that's kind of how I started this thread. :P

Well yeah and that just fits into the angle news stories have been lately. I don't think it's a coincidence news is focusing on incompetent authorities. It's not like that's exploded so much in the past few years compared to the history of any civilization.

it is liberal propaganda. cops always get a bad rap and I for one am sick and tired of it.
@ shadx312 you're right about this stuff happening all the time but now the advent of camera access is the new variable, and with every release of an iPhone even more cameras hit the street.

i don't know what else black people want us to do, we freed them didn't we, they didn't get that 40 acres and a mule promised but hey I don't know anybody on the ableton forums who's got a free 40 acres and a mule hand out sooo?
and all I keep hearing is "all I was doing was playing my music" well ok turn that damn jungle music down and maybe you won't get shot by a cop
or all I was doing was holding a cellphone, ok well show some respect for law enforcement and when a cop is talking to you don't be standing there in your saggin jeans holding your cellphone maybe if you pull your pants up and put your cellphone in your pocket like a normal american maybe then you won't get shot…
I mean I really get tired of all the jibber jabber. Cops do a hard job that nobody else wants to do and don't nearly get paid enough money or respect. I can just imagine how cops must feel you're walking your beat moving down the street and here comes some minority with his jeans down around his ankles, got his iPod on listening to all that hippity dippity dop I mean who do these people think they are, what has america come to, makes you long for the good ole days of the fifties when women knew their place in the kitchen, gays knew their place in the closet, and no damn cellphone cameras to catch good police doing their jobs and putting blacks in their place.

Wow

@cops: thugs with a badge. What's new?

@liberal propaganda: I'm not liberal, but I disagree with most of what SS said.

@OT: Who cares. I've had worse things happen. Life sucks. But hey, I've gotta be careful what I say because "he" follows me.
