And that whole ostalgia thing that is ripping through our country lately (because of the 25th anniversary I take it), feels uncomfortable to me.

It's like they take my life and turn it into a ZDF Vorabend feel good series. Not the film specificaly, just the general ghist of it.
It feels like when Guido Knopp is talking about Hitler.
There is something disturbingly voyeuristic about it.

The other thing that me about some stories on falling oil prices or getting off fossil fuels is the potential loss of jobs. Really??? So its ok to destroy the planet if it means saving jobs. Advancements and new technology has always made people obsolete but it has also always created new employment opportunities.

I don't mind ostalgia all that much either (and I liked these films too, and probably will like the skater movie). It's just when wessis all the sudden get ostalgic, that I get weirded out.
It's like: Look at all these Ossies how they fought for their little personal freedoms, isn't it cute?!

And then the constant self congratulatory "we have been on the right side of history" attitude by the older generation of wessis.

Just read a comment section of an article talking about Bodo Ramelows (a wessi ironicly) coming election in Thüringen.

The falling prices and ultimate energy independence are the greatest things to happen in the USA in God Knows How Long.

The fuckwits who spell economic doom and gloom or whatever the fuck as a result of low gas prices clearly are:

1. Typing that shit on their $3000 MacBook Pro whilst sippling some horrid craft beer IPA.
2. Never had to work a real fucking day in their lives that would involve actually putting gas into a tank and driving 30 miles to some shithole job that pays $5hr.
3. Typing endless blog entries on the horrors of fracking based on pseudo science and a dream that solar panels will someday be installed on the roof of their $4000 month condo.

I know it’s more distraction and puppeteering by corporations and political parties. “Let’s just pit the tree huggers against the hard working coal workers.”

You mentioned people feeling helpless or apathetic to change anything. That’s probably puppeteering too. “Let’s distract them with wondrous consumer goods while bombarding them with images of the little guy trying to fight the system and losing.”

The latest tool in the shed is making everybody think they are rapidly militarizing the police. Never mind the fact that in most large cities the police are overworked and understaffed, but they have us believing that if there was a large populous uprising they’d somehow transform into Voltron Cop that crushes all in its path. Of course the mainstream news wants us to feel like they too are outraged by this, but it’s actually more of a propaganda warning campaign by their corporate masters.

Interesting perspective. I hadn't looked at it this way before.
But are these things actually mutually exclusive?

Maybe they changed their strategy to: Speak harshly and carry a big stick?!

I’m not saying militarizing the police isn’t something to be concerned about, but the way it’s painted is that any and all opposing gatherings will be met with either overwhelming force or, oops, a overreacting cop shot somebody. Better to stay home and express your frustration on a game console. Won’t make for a great Facebook or Twitter post but at least you won’t get killed.

And really how bad is life if you own a game console? Should stop complaining.

Any money that can be put in your pocket instead of the oil companies is OK by me!

Local highly leveraged oil vs. cheap oil from overseas might NOT be the greatest thing to happen to the USA.

It takes a certain price per barrel to make it profitable for domestic production and when the world market gets flooded with cheap oil what do you think is gonna happen?
