Waves Soundgrid-Connect makes plug-ins run on a DSP server

Post by Stromkraft » Wed Sep 28, 2016 12:46 am

The driver is free with any waves plug-in under an update plan: SoundGrid Driver

The cheapest DSP server is SoundGrid Impact Server at $700 and seems able to take quite a few Waves plug-ins.

Waves also supports other SoundGrid-compatible third-party plugins, unclear exactly which ones. They claim they're "working closely with additional plugin vendors and several hardware manufacturers in order to create a wide range of solutions and expand even further the family of SoundGrid-compatible tools". OK? Plugin Alliance seem to be onboard but are not mentioned on the Waves site as far as I can see.

Another thing is that the lowest latencies are reserved for SoundGrid-compatible audio interfaces, whatever that could be. Of course, with much offloading you could perhaps lower your audio buffer. But more likely is that you'd use more of your software synths.

With the Universal Audio Apollo Twin USB Duo now at 640€ or so (ex. VAT) could this thing be a hardware contender for people using Waves plug-ins already? Even attract new users? I don't like all Waves plug-ins but those I like, I really like.
Make some music!

Below is a list of the current 3rd party plugins that are SG compatible. It's best to check with your favorite plugin manufactures on if/when they plan to code for SG.

Also, for recording/monitoring with the SG plugins active, you are correct a SG-compatible I/O is best for achieving lowest latecy.

SG is open architecture platform for both software and hardware so I/O manufactures can also develop SG integration into their interfaces.
Apogee has already announced their Symphony MkII will be SG compatible(http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/s ... /soundgrid).

DiGiGrid I/Os (http://www.waves.com/hardware/digigrid-interfaces) are available, which some (like the IOS) have a built-in server.

1) Plugin Alliance

100% SoundGrid Bundle V1.0
bx_saturator V2
Mpressor
EQ4
De-Essers
Transient Designer Plus

2) Flux
Alchemist
Solera
Syrah
Elxir
Epure
Pure Limiter
Pure Compressor
Pure DCompressor
Pure Expander
Pure DExpander
Bitter Sweet Pro (just released)
BitterSweet (Free Plugin-in)
Stereo Tool (Free Plug-in)

Note - Almost all Waves plugins are SG compatible, but some are not. http://www.waves.com/support/tech-specs ... -platforms
