Recommendations for 24"+ monitor for Macbook Pro Retina / AL

Post by musicman_uk » Mon Apr 02, 2018 5:36 pm

Hi,

I am looking to buying a suitable large desktop monitor for my Macbook Pro Retina (mid-2015) for use with Ableton specifically. Been googling but really not sure what will give the most suitable results. I don't want graphics to have that stretched look you get when wrong resolution used. Interested to know what other MacBook Pro Retina, Ableton users have as a desktop monitor.

Budget is around £250-£400 GBP

Cheers
Neil

If you go for monitor than buy something bigger than 24.
I have recently got Benq 27" BL series BL2711U. Works perfectly. It is an IPS monitor (I can look from an angle and see everything clearly, for instance when I am on a keyboard or so...). Many connections. USB3 hub for extra stuff... Audio out (for youtube etc).
IMPORTANT: You need to buy a separate cable that will allow to connect from your Mac's thunderbolt. Otherwise you cannot get the full resolution of 4k via Mac's HDMI port. Such stupid done by Apple.
Also, you have to be sure that the cable you buy will allow 4k speed, the most cheap will not

No, don't buy a TV.

Add: retina feeling you will get only with 5k display. But it is very pricey, and my 4k Benq is just perfect so far!

I have a Dell 24 inch as a secondary monitor and a Samsung 4k on top as a main one - works a treat with macbook pro - investigating nowadays if it would deliver same results if I went pc route for a more affordable but high end machine better than my macbook

I recently purchased the Benq 27" BL series BL2711U based on your recommendation. Works perfectly just as described! :)
