I don't have that experience, but my friend makes beats and sells them for different prices; his base price is 300 ZAR (~20 USD), and it's not an exclusive license (meaning if someone else wanted to buy the same beat, they pay that same amount and get to use it the same way.
Recently, he sold his first exclusive license beat, if I remember correctly, it was around 800 ZAR (~50 USD). These were not his prefered prices but rappers (and singers) are less interested in paying for a beat in a time when people have gotten successful from songs they did on famous instrumentals for free.
Looking at it from the sidelines, I feel like he's lucky to have sold than 3 beats per month for the past year, it doesn't seem to be something you'd wanna make into your main source of income in this industry. But it does work well if you're not coming with heavy expectations. It all rests on you.
