I use a Microsoft Surface Pro with Windows 10. It has an SSD drive.
Should I let the OS compress the hard drive?
How much overhead does it create for Ableton Live if the drive is compressed?

Question is more accurately "do you really need to compress your drive"?

It may save you a few GB of space but will obviously add extra CPU load and also additional write cycles to the SSD having to uncompress files that need to be accessed and could lead to your SSD dying faster (not really sure). May lead to slight load delays in Live etc. Should not affect performance once a set/samples are loaded as they would be read from ram or would be uncompressed to a section of the drive for reading.

Do a little research on the matter of compressing an SSD and access times ect. I don't believe it would impact a great deal but I also haven't used drive compression in over 10 years either.
