Why would it be too late?

You should enjoy the process of making music and learning how to get the sounds you want. That's about all there is to making music.

Success is making a track and somebody says "That sounds good".

Sorry but this question is too stupid. As there is no age to listen to the music in the same way there is no age to start to produce it.

While I agree with most of your post, let's avoid calling other users stupid just for asking a question.

Question in response would be why do you want to produce music at all?

That's a question that you really need to ask yourself because that will help answer your original question.

When you are younger you tend to learn much quicker and take things in as your brain develops and craves input. BUt as you get older it can be more difficult to really understand things so that will be a bit of a hinderance.

If your main goal is to make an income from selling hits then you have a lot of challenges and a huge amount of time and money to invest which would likely not turn out how you would like but still possible with the right focus and plan. If you simply want to experiment and have some fun and create some projects as a hobby (like 95% of us) then there is no age limit on that and if you have a lot of free time it can help chew that up.

Me at 15 : Everything I create is terrible, Everything my heroes create is amazing

Me at 25: Everything I create is amazing, My peers are pretty good

Me at 35: Everything is terrible and derivative, everyone is terrible

Me at 45: Nothing matters, might as well make some music

i disagree with that bit. it depends on your perspective. for example, i have always been curious and loved learning, and i can't see that ever changing...

it's not late.

A neighbour of mine started producing hiphop at 42, before that, he was only a listener, playing old school hiphop day-in, day-out.
His only problem is that the hiphop he produces doesn't have many fans anymore, people want trap and pop. He also doesn't share his music anymore, I assumed it's because of a self-esteem problem because he doesn't fit in with the local producers' niche.

You can start at any time you want, but you have to be realistic when setting goals...

No, it is never to late.......

Next year I turn 55, and still love making music. I have been listening too music since my childhood, and started making music in my "teen years". I started out as guitarist in a metalband, soon to be a bassplayer (what I have done the most of my life) and since 1993 started to record on a borrowed 4 track cassette recorder. After '96 I started to make music on PC's and Mac's and in 1999 I started a course with the Amsterdam SAE. I graduated as one of the best of my schoolyear. When the course started they called me grandpa and old man - but most of them even don't finnished the course!

For all these years I used Cubase in all forms as my main sequencer, but a few years back I jumped the boat to Ableton Live Suite with Push 2 - and never looked back. It was in fact an add I saw on youbube from the Push 2 wich triggered it all.

After playing metal for some years, I began playing pop and rock. Followed by EDM what I still make today. Am I to old? No!!!!! Hell No!!!!!!! Will I ever break into the charts? Proberly not, but that is not where it is all about, it is about expressing yourself.........

Me at 42. I just do this for myself now. Hell knows I have no listeners.
If the OP starts at 36 just keep it in mind that getting an audience is going to be hard and to do it for other reasons.

Nah I think most people that age are somewhat tech software savvy.
Majority of music production these days is done ITB
