Re: Macbook Pro with Ableton runs extremely hot
If you are part of our beta testing process, there is a new beta which has some changes that we would like help testing regarding fan noise:

I noticed this line in the beta release notes: "On macOS, Live now uses Apple's Metal framework to present its UI on supported hardware."
I wouldn't be surprised if that helps a bit too...

I work as well a lot with protools, and the MacBook Pro is so quiet all the time... just switch to Ableton, with a blank session, without any plugins and the ventilation starts running, and the book getting hot ...
Ableton have to look at this ... !! Or, sooner or late I will move ...
identical problem here too ... identica!! ... with an external monitor and with the latest beta version 10.1.25b3
He knocks the temperature to the top, but after 10-15 minutes the temperature drops by 25-30%, all with an empty project-session.
Then the macbook pro 16-inch i9 becomes quite noisy and I constantly get the impression that everything is on edge.
And it really forces me to work in Logic but the problem is that I work a lot on Push 2 and then it’s all pretty frustrating all together.
Re: Macbook Pro with Ableton runs extremely hot
I experience the exact same issue with Live 10.1.25 on macbook pro 16-inch 2019 / MacOs Catalina 10.15.7 and external monitor
seems the GPU is suspiciously high and irrespective of the activity on the session
I confirm it is not happening when I disconnect the external monitor (I see GPU activity on Intel rather than AMD and no fan noise at all but back as soon as I reconnect the external monitors)
Idle session and the fan noise start after 1 min
Appreciate any help or guidance how to solve this as the fan noise is so loud (and very much annoying) that it's being picked by any mic around...
Thanks!

Re: Macbook Pro with Ableton runs extremely hot
Just wanted to chime in and say I am also experiencing the same issue! Fans run flat out and Ableton doesn't seem to be using the power the system has to offer - just produces heat. It's strange it seems like it putting all the stress on a single core instead of spreading it out across all cores available. I hope Ableton is taking a serious look at this as this as this can potentially be damaging to expensive hardware!
Re: Macbook Pro with Ableton runs extremely hot
I experience the same problem when i am not using an external monitor. I am on macbook pro 16" i9 and Catalina 10.15.7. But if i turn of dynamic switching/the Radeon Graphics card and use the intel only, it is way better. Unfortunally i do not think it is possible to use the Intel graphics card when you use an external monitor. So it looks like Ableton and Radeon are not friends....

Ableton and Radeon graphics work fine here on my Ryzen PC.
Live 11, M1 Mac Mini, Push 2, Scarlett 18i20 & ADA8200, Softube Console 1 Mk2, Deepmind12, Hydrasynth, Cobalt 8M, Moog Subsequent 25, IK Uno Synth Pro, Plethora X3, Nord Drum 3P

75°C is within the spec for the Macbook Pro 15 2019. The max Junction of these cpus is somewhere around 95-105°C. There are some other Keyparts which will fail before something fails because of high temperatures, like the keyboard, display, battery, ram.
And there is the factor OS support which will cause intel Macs a bigger problem than bad thermal design.
All these points and the fact that i dont have to be portable made me reconsider buying a mac. The new m1 ones are awesome but price and os / plugin support is to restrictive. So i build a pc with a RME pcie card.
