Anyone using the New Mac Mini M1 2020 with Ableton?

Anyone using the New Mac Mini M1 2020 with Ableton?

Apple M1 Chip with 8‑Core CPU and 8‑Core GPU

Thinking of upgrading from my Mac mini late 2012 2.3 Ghz intel core i7 Quadcore, as it finally seems worth it.

Just wondering peoples thoughts on the new 2020 model with M1 chip and how powerful it is?

Hi,

Was using a MBP 2015.

Ableton is working fine on the M1!

Just need to be sure your soundcard is supported, I use a Behringer XR18 which is class complaint. The plugins I use most are Soundtoys, Fabfilter and U-he and they all work fine.

It looks like rendering a track takes a little bit more time than on the intel MBP but I guess that’s due to the fact that Ableton and the plugins aren’t native yet.
I’ve tried Softube’s modular which is a cpu hoag and the M1 didn’t even blink running bigger patches. The MBP would run very hot and slow on the same patch.

So all good here!

Ableton runs fine, but as it is under Rosetta2 obviously it adds system resources. In my experience Ableton plus non-native M1 plugins can be a drag.

looking forward for the native versions soon!

Seems to be pretty slow .. I am running the new 2021 macbook pro 13 in, M1 chip w 16 mb ram. Purposely I wanted to really take the processor to its knees for the purpose of testing and see if it would outperform my 2016 macbook pro 16 inch. Sadly it is about the same speed as far as Ableton goes, and rendering is way slower. That being said, I decided to keep the computer instead of return it ... its not a bad pricetag and personally I will use this to perform live at shows. When i start really mixing a new album I (hope) that I can purchase a destop or something more powerful for sure!

Hope its useful info

Live doesn't yet support M1 chips...
