PC Audio Interface recommendation?

Post by ZenMusic » Mon Sep 19, 2022 2:33 pm

About Audio Interface. I have a powerful RME Fireface UFX as audio interface (Windows 10-11) and Live Suite. Now I realize that I do everything including eq and volume etc. in Live not through my Fireface (after a day of tutoring from my daughter a DJ). I write mostly large electronic music compositions and symphonic. (some Trace also)

So I'm getting a new PC (PC I12700 RTX3070 32MB DDR5 RAM) and can get a much simpler (cheaper) AUDIO INTERFACE, but must have top quality sound; Any recommendations?

(I'm keeping the old system and the RME but need a backup AudioInterface now)

What are the function I need in The Audio interface for Ableton and Live performance? I think
4 audio outputs to powered speakers
MIDI IN/OUT THRU
at least 4 audio inputs (to Ableton)

am I missing anything , recommendations?

I agree with Tarekith, simply go with a smaller RME card - as the converters and drivers are top notch, they are expandable (ADAT) and extremely flexible with Total Mix.

UC/UCX/UCX2
8 inputs = 2 XLR/Line, 6 Line
8* Outputs = 6 Line, * 1 Stereo Headphone
2 MIDI IN/OUT (Except UCX2, it has one MIDI IN/OUT)
ADAT IN/OUT
SPDIF

Babyface Pro (FS)
4 inputs = 2 XLR, 2 Line
4* Outputs = 2 XLR, * 1 Stereo Headphone (technically 2 headphone outs, one 1/4inch, one 1/8 inch, but with the same signal on each)
1 MIDI IN/OUT
ADAT IN/OUT

I can't imagine NOT having Total Mix now that I'm so used to it. Such a versatile tool.
