Mic input level vs peak level

Post by DiovdL » Fri Jan 06, 2023 11:52 am

Hi!

I've been recording for a while, but this is my first time using Ableton. I'm using Ableton Live lite 11, a Rhode NT1-A mic and a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 interface. Phantom power is turned on and 'Pad' is turned off. I've also set my audio track to the corresponding input on my interface. And no, the mic is not backwards

I'm able to record, and the volume on my recordings sounds pretty decent. When I turn up the gain on my interface the knob turns red indicating it's clipping, so I'm on max gain level.

The problem is, on my track display the graph of my audio signal hardly shows (don't know how to explain, but it's almost flat). Plus, my peak level in Ableton only goes to -19.6 Db max. Although this might not be a huge problem, it's way different than what I'm used to. I wonder what I can do to fix this. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
