Live 8.2.4b3 non-functional with Lion GM

Post by sqook » Wed Jul 13, 2011 7:53 am

I can't get Live to even crash properly on 10.7, be it either with the latest 8.2.2 release or the 8.2.4b3. I upgraded to the Lion GM release for work, and fortunately don't have any gigs coming up soon so I'm willing to deal with the pain of being an early adopter.

I can preview clips in the file browser, but I can't actually play them in the session view. When I launch the clips, they just sit there and nothing actually comes out the speakers. No animation is shown either which would indicate that the clip started playing, though the play button is highlighted. I'm using the built-in soundcard, nothing special connected, etc.

Then when I want to quit live by pressing cmd+q, nothing happens and the app hangs until I force quit it.

Anyone else seen this? I looked in some of the other Lion threads in the forum, and it seems that many people are running Live without problems on Lion.

IDK if it can be helpful but
I've seen such behaviour!

and + Main time-clock staying still wile GUI play(triangle) highlighted.

I can reproduce it by connecting Live to sound-card-driver that is unable to handle Live when busy with other application.
In my case it isn't bug at all. (IMO) just audio-driver unable to talk back to Live-app.

What happens if You use some straight audio-card not the one built-in?

8.2.2 won't even launch for me, just crashes straight away on GM build.

8.2.4b3 seems to work fairly well though :)

Yes, that's exactly what is happening. The clips are highlighted, but nothing plays. For the record, I get the same behavior with the built-in soundcard, soundflower, and an external firewire interface.

For now, until an update is released, turn off Multiprocessor support in the CPU / Preferences. All will work. Except you're operating on only one core.
MacBook Pro (MacOS 13.0.1) i9 Processor, 32gb RAM, 4tb SSD
(STUDIO I/O) MOTU UltraLite mk5 (w/ADA8200), (LIVE I/O) Behringer X Air XR18
Ableton Live Suite 11 (Live performances), Studio One 5 (Studio Stem Creation)

fwiw, I did a clean reinstall of Lion and at least this crash seems to be fixed. Lots of other crashes, though, most of them with plugins that couldn't be loaded, etc.

Im having all the same problems including crashes from trying to install live packs, saving sets, and even trying to turn off multicore processing support. hope this is fixed soon.

you may want to try the latest beta, which introduces Lion compatibility
