Jerky audio output with Live 8.2.5b1

Post by djpad » Sun Jul 31, 2011 5:40 pm

Hi eveybody,
I've a problem with audio on my macbook pro running OS X lion with the latest Live beta: the audio output is really jerky with my Firebox when I try to play sound from another apps (flash player,iTunes, vlc and so on…) when Live is launched (even if it is not playing). I just need to switch audio to another interface on Live (or switch interface used by mac os x) or tweak some parameters in audio tabs in settings window and everything plays normally.

Greetings,

Dj Pad

Sorry, you're right... please check that the audio settings (in/out sample rate) in Ableton are the same as in Audio MIDI setup in Mac OS.

The samplerate was 48000 in Live and 44100 in Audio Midi Setup, I've change it. It seems working well know.
Thanks for your help cids

EDIT: it seems that sometimes the bug still happen, really strange...

Hey guys. Have the same issue. But in a quite different way. I'm running OSX Lion with the current beta of Live.
My prob:
After a while (around 30 sec.) ableton begins to slow down! like you turn down the pitch to half time... Immediately I thought this has something to do with my cpu performance. But everything is in a good range. (CPU usage 50%, 4 Gb Memory). I'm running Live on a Macbook Pro late unibody.

My interface is a m-audio profire 610.

Has anyone an idea that could fix my problem?

of course my samplerate are in sync.

Have a nice day.

There is a post on this subject over at the RME Forum (or well, similar subject at least but I think they are both from the same cause):
he golden master of Lion does no longer show some performance problems and errors that we saw earlier, so it seems Apple has fixed those.

Unfortunately they seem to have introduced a new bug: when changing the sample rate several things can happen:

- playback is garbled for several seconds
- the application hangs for several seconds
- a mixture of both

With programs like Logic, which needs several seconds to switch anyway, the error is not easily noticable. With iTunes it is.

This error also affects Apples own FireWire driver, so is not caused by our drivers. We have informed Apple and hope a fix will come soon.

This error is no showstopper, and if you switch sample rate not so often you most likely don't even notice it. Apart from this Lion seems to work ok with audio.

Personally I would not update my OS until this problem has been solved.

ok thanks mattadms, it seems that it may be the same issue.
I hope that Apple will fix that rapidly if it is really an OS X bug.

I'm having an issue with Lion and my Firebox where all the audio randomly silences. the meters are still running but no sound. if i change my audio driver to something else and then back it works or if i unplug my firewire and plug it back in it works. very frustrating.
