32 and 64 installations side by side?

Post by taoyoyo » Wed Jul 04, 2012 3:24 pm

Am wondering how this is meant to work if you have both installations side by side?

Can we rename the Application instances without affecting the auto-updates?

I'm getting the 'Ableton Live 8 Beta wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this' message when I load up 32 after 64 (and vice-versa).

Side by side - you mean Live 8.3.x and Live 8.4 beta running *at the same time*?

Both scenarios are possible and should not affect auto updates for neither release version nor any of the beta builds be it 32 or 64 bit.

It won't install over your current version of Live 8.3.2.

I was also getting these messages already when using 8.3.1b1 after 8.3 or vice versa. Iirc, it seemed to be related to an outdated ReWire driver.

Both 32 & 74 bit versions have the same name: 'Ableton Live 8 Beta'

So I can safely rename them 'Ableton Live 8 Beta_32', 'Ableton Live 8 Beta_64' in the Application folder and they should both auto-update as new builds arrive?

Cheers,

Alan

... Same here. Had a lengthy to and fro with Support and the 'different Rewire between versions' scenario was what I was told... couldn't find a fix for it (other than only using one version... which is tricky when comparing 32 and 64bit 8.4b1!).

I'm guessing that 32 & 64 bit versions use Rewire differently?

Hi,
We discovered a rewire issue and a solution is inbound. Apart from that there should be no problem installing 32 and 64 side by side with updates being enabled - also after renaming the applications.

Should you encounter problems please add a thread pr problem to this forum, it makes tracking defect information so much easier for us. I will lock this thread for discussion, but please do add the bugs as they come along.

best,
Mads
