Midi controllers losing functionality osx 10.6.8/ 8.4.2b

Post by audiofeen » Fri Jul 13, 2012 2:05 am

first testing i had 2 midi controllers lose total functionality and had to turn the power off and turn on again from the controller to regain functionality.
I was using the latest versions of the following plugins in vst mode with no audio clips in the session view:

fm8
reaktor
maschine
mini moog v

Mac pro dual quad 2.8ghz
20gb ram
Osx 10.6.8
live 8.4.2b

the controllers that lost function were
akai apc 40 (the lights on the controller stayed illuminated but the red box disappeared and i could not move with the directional key and faders knobs and buttons lost all input/output function)
m-audio keystation 61 es (the keyboard was on but no midi note info on the track or in the midi input window)

Live setup: Macbook pro 3ghz 16gb ram, Live 8.x.x, max 4 live, Mpc 1000, Komplete 7, Circle, Akai apc40, Motu ultralite, Krk Vxt8's, and soon a Innerclock Systems sync gen.

Hi Audiofeen,

- Did this happen repeatedly?
- Did you have both devices connected to direct ports or to a hub?, if to a hub, which brand?.
- If you look in console for system logs, do you see any crashlogs generated at the time when this happened?.

Did anyone else experience kicked devices as described above?.

best,
Mads

Hey mads

I was only playing around with it for the first time and it only happened once with each device at separate times,
I didn't check what happened in the log but i'll check the log if it does again (i was quite sleepy).
both devices are plugged into a powered Belkin usb hub.

Hi Audiofeen,

To be able to isolate the error, please try to connect the devices to direct USB ports to exclude the hub as a source of the defect.

I would also be interested in knowing if this happens for you using other host software.

Mads

Hi Audiofeen,

on OS X I had a APC40 and the M-audio Axiom 25 connected throughout days without seeing the error.
- did you have hypercontrol from M-audio installed and active?, or any other mapping software that possibly could interfere with the APC?. If yes, please let us know if you can reproduce the error after uninstalling Hypercontrol.

No I haven't installed hyper control, just running it with the standard plug and play driver, I have plugged them straight in without the hub, but I haven't had time for testing yet. I'll post again how it goes when I have some time to work with the beta version.
