Will Live 8 64 Bit support M4L and Video?

Hi,

sorry if this has been answered before, but from the the Knowledge Base it doesn't become really clear if M4L and Video will be supported in Live 8 64 Bit or if only Live 9 will include these?

I'm not exactly thrilled with Live 9 so would prefer to stay in 8 but still be able to use more RAM.

Thank you for a clarification!

Cheers,

Tom

I wouldn't be surprised if M4L worked with 32bit L8 only - L9 beta still doesn't support it, and as I guess it's not a problem of Live itself, but rather MFL.

That wouldn't make any sense to officially release a live 8 update that didn't include compatibility with other Ableton add-on software marketed to work with live 8. I would definitely be pissed. I'm hoping that that is the main hold up with 8.4/9 official, max4live 64 bit getting finished. This is getting ridiculous.

My guess is that until Max 6 is a 64 bit application we won't see a 64 bit Max For Live. :(

Max 6 is currently a 32-bit binary application. We hope to have 64-bit binary version of Max in the future, which will address 32-bit memory limitations. This is not to be confused with MSP’s signal processing bit depth, which has been updated to 64-bit in Max 6. A future 64-bit version of Max would require re-compilation of third-party objects for 64-bit compatibility.

Ableton stated somewhere that Live 9 will be released with Max support for 64 bit.

Yeah, but my question is: will we be forced to update to Live 9 to be able to use Live 64 Bit with Video and Max for Live or not.

That doesn't make any logical sense to me, but time will tell. I don't see it making sense to piss off that many paid customers. Stranger things have happened though. Not having 64 bit on a major creative application is ridiculous at this point.

Ok, now that there is a Max 64 Bit beta I want to repeat my question: Will we be able to use the 64 Bit version of Ableton Live 8 with Max for Live?

I am no fan of Live 9 so far and would prefer to continue using Live 8, but 64 Bit becomes more and more important here...

An answer would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Tom

Well we have video but I think you will still be waiting for the M4L side. They might have 64 bit version of Max 6 but Live 8 was built with Max 5 and yes I know you can use Max6 with Live8 but I imagine that there are some technical difficulties that need to be worked out. Will cycling 74 make Max5 64 bit? Will we have to get Max6 to use 64Bit M4L in Ableton 8? Sounds like a huge pain in the butt for the entirety of both development teams.

Can someone from Ableton please comment on the L8x64 roadmap?

i am much in favour of having an update to 64bit in live8 with m4l as well.

stability between live and m4l has always been a major issue at least for me and i would hope, that people simply not being able to afford dishing out on live9 (yet...meh!) would still be able to at least get the benefit of this core evolution.

i am not sure, but would m4l devices, designed as 64bit (thus in 64bit maxmsp) still be backward compatible to a 32bit (thus live8) host?

plus, in my opinion, there still will be a huge userbase of live8 for some time and it would be total shame to see a divide in the awesome dev community of m4l devices for that technical reason.

(soooo disappointed to not be able to try monolakes new granulator)

I guess this is a "NO" then?

Well, I think I even understand it from Abletons point of view.
Why invest time and money in an old version when there is this glorious new L9...

It just feels bad since we were already halfways there with a usable 64 Bit verson of L8.

I can only say that I would be still interested and happy to be able to use the M4L I bought with L8 x64.
I can't see myself updating to L9.

Cheers,

Tom
