custom m4l sequencers/ableton & m4l arpeggiators =no notes

been using a few custom m4l sequencers, mainly this lovely device:

but when using either abletons built in arpeggiator, or m4l arp midi fx,
the arps don't work. literally. notes stop coming thru.
either placed on the same midi track as the sequencer or on the instr track.
any thoughts ? would really love this worked out.
