touchstrip as pitchbend in drum rack

Post by corneliusw » Sat Apr 13, 2013 6:01 am

Is there a way to use the touch strip as a pitch bend in a drum rack, instead of the scrolling behaviour?

One of my favourite things is pitch bend individual drum hits. I realise I could probably make up a m4l device to do this and apply it to an encoder - but I really like that touchstrip!

yeah I'd like that too

you can of course access pitch parameters in a lot of the kits, but it's not the same

personally I would be happy to just use the octave up/down buttons to access different parts of the kit. Most of the time I just use the 16 pads anyway and load another kit if I want more, it's easier to manage that way

from that guy's youtube that you linked:
Pretty busy, but here's the rundown: The initial release of 9 (not the Beta update) allowed for mapping of the pitch bend and would override the normal command to switch octaves in the drum rack. Once I installed and ran the Beta update this was no longer true. After some messing around, I found that the User mode (which looks for All Ins, but not Push input) would allow for notes but no feedback so I can use it like I did in the video, just with no lights.

ah.. thanks for that Youtube quote. That makes sense. I hope it's (re)implemented... the touchstrip is great, I need that way more than scrolling. the octave up and down would be fine too.

yeah, its very odd. The octave up down buttons accomplish exactly the same thing, why give up the primary continuous controller for a duplicate function?

Hi Guys, wouldn't it make sense to use the 4x4 finger drum rack mode to play 16 pitches of a selected sound? ie. play notes of your percussion hits? the velocity 'layout' is similar in behaviour...and as added behaviour the touchstrip can be used as pitch bend. Octave up and down buttons can be used for navigating trough drum racks.

That is only in instrument mode. We want it to work in drum rack mode.

Hmmm.. I'm amazed this limitation has not been addressed yet!
