Push Secrets - aka tiny tips

Post by panten » Wed Apr 17, 2013 12:38 pm

Tip: I'm going to BOLD & UNDERLINE any tips in this thread due to unfortunate derailing. I humbly suggest to do the same. thanks

I have gotta say I am loving Push so far. Sure there are a lot of things missing from it and I'm taking a bunch of notes, but it is very intuitive.

I've been trying not to look at the manual too much until I get stuck or I find something unusual (to check whether it was intended or not)
Been trying out holding different buttons and combinations to see if they do intuitively what I'd expect and stumbled across this..

Tip: Press and hold Duplicate while in Session Mode and tap on an existing clip. It will duplicate that selected pad. - I couldn't see anything about this in the docs. Thought it was a nice idea.

I'm sure there are other things that aren't documented. If I find any more I'll post em here.

*edit* actually this made me think a better implementation of this would be:
  • -hold duplicate and select an existing clip to copy it, then push on an empty slot to paste it. Perhaps this could also work with multiple clips by holding select and selecting multiple clips.

Maschine already does this out of the box. You hold down the duplicate button and press the pad to copy and tap a non-lit pad, the current pattern will be copied into the pad you tapped (you can duplicate to more than one pad by tapping more non-lit pads), like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piMv9-P2feA&t=02m52s

This also works the same for duplicating scenes.

One thing I can't remember how to reproduce:
One day I accidently changed the number of steps per row somehow... so it was only 4 rows with 6 steps each in drumrack mode.
The rightmost steps were red then.

Does anyone know how to change the number of steps in drumrackmode?

Maschine already does this out of the box....oh blah blah blah blah blah blah crap crap unrelated crap on....
I know you are doing this deliberately, but...
humbnumb dumb dumb how stupid are you? Did you notice the title of this topic?
PUSH Secrets aka tiny tips?
Not mash-ine tips & tricks? It's getting real old, real fast (it did a long time ago)
Why don't you go and do something useful, like helping fellow maschine users or make some music or something. Honestly your time would be spent a lot better that way.

artpunk: DO NOT berate the special kid. He's only trying his best. :)

#1thelark: that one IS in the manual.

Page.493 Section 27.3.1 Step Sequencing.
By default, each step sequencer pad corresponds to a 16th note, but you can change the step
size via the buttons in the Scene/Grid section.

Anybody know of any web browser scripts that let you block individual users in a forum?

I'm tired of the Maschine shillbot

..but half of these threads will make no sense if you do that.

Untill ableton make browsing more efficient, you can at least make your own and most used presets stay on top by renaming them with a space at the start

agent314: I see what you did there and I LIKE it :D

Just discovered another one that doesn't seem to be in the docs.

Tip: If in Note Mode and you push and hold Session it acts temporarily. Allowing you to launch clips then release the Session button to jump straight back into Note mode.

Ryder17 cheers for that one. I've been giving mine a prefix of _NAME which serves the same purpose of putting them at the top of the list but a space might look a bit nicer

I rename all my own presets anyway so adding a space or _ is less tedious than having to listen to the same speech time and again.
