Obviously you are trolling cause we can't know for real.

yeah, it concerns me. But given all the other shit I do around my consumption habits and since I live and third world country already I would a bet that the labour used is legal and let my concious sleep happy.

Now, do you eat meat? Cause you know that is global warming first cause. :P 8O

Hmm

I can't find any information about labour or human rights violations by Akai. They're owned by Grande Holdings, which makes electronics for a bunch of different brands. The plants are in Zhongshan and Panyu. This is in the Guangzhou area, the forefront of industrialization and capitalism in China. Conditions are bad, but it does not typically involve 8 year old slave labour. Mostly teenage migrant workers from the rural area, 16 and up; who work under pretty awful conditions. Pun Ngai has written a very good book on this, which you can get here. ChinaLaborWatch, which has lots about rights violations by Apple and Samsung, does not appear to finger Akai or Grande as particularly awful.

Livid's workshops appear to be in Austin Texas. There seem to be three people working there: Jay Smith, Peter Nyboer, and Travis Redding. They seem pretty cool guys. But I wonder how long the backlog would be if you were to order from them.

Child Labor On Farms

Hundreds of thousands of children work on American farms, with HRW noting those workers are exempt from minimum-age and maximum-hour requirements that apply to all other working minors under the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act.

“As a result, child farmworkers, most of them Latino, often work 10 or more hours a day and risk pesticide poisoning, heat illness, injuries, lifelong disabilities, and death. Of children under age 16 who suffered fatal occupational injuries in 2010, 75 percent worked in crop production. Thousands more are injured each year. Federal protections that do exist are often not enforced,” the group reported.

In addition, HRW said millions of American workers are harmed by a dearth of paid family leave, a lack of breastfeeding accommodation, and discrimination against workers with family responsibilities.

We should ask the guys at Livid whether they get adequate breastfeeding. There could be an issue there.

I wondered what that white sticky stuff was on my Livid Code, now I think I know what it may be!
