Am I overcomplicating the foot switch in my head?

Post by fn0000rd » Mon Dec 29, 2014 8:17 pm

I have a sustain pedal that I love, and I'm looking to set up a trigger pedal for recording.

Everything I see is just another sustain pedal -- is that all I really need, and to just tap it once/twice?

Yes. that's all you need. But,

Unfortunately it has very inaccurate results (accurate input, but hesitant reaction time due to its intended behavior). There is another thread on here that goes pretty indepth about the actual behavior of the pedal recording method.

But yeah. Just a regular old sustain pedal. Something that can tell when you push your foot down. Live handles the rest of the behavior.

Hmmmm, bummer, having both hands free to actually *play* while kicking off a loop is kinda key. I'll have to look for the thread.

Maybe a guitar style footswitch would work? I dunno just an idea, guitar style footswitches tend to be latching on/off jobs maybe it would work better than a sus pedal.

If you have any other keyboards, you can suite that input to your needs. It might be slightly tighter, but not as multi-functioned. (Plus you still have Push for your sustain needs)

The main thing I'd suggest is mapping either a qwerty or midi note (not cc) to the funky circle arm button. Maybe another to the New button.

Qwerty works pretty well if you have a typing keyboard you want to rip apart haha

For my Push I'm using: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005 ... UTF8&psc=1 Yamaha FC-5 Sustain Pedal for Portable Electronic Keyboards

I like that it looks and feels different than my sustain pedal.

Thank you, that's both physically and cognitively what I was looking for :]

Do you trigger with it much?

just a heads up that some pedals have 'normally open' switches, and some 'normally closed'. and some have a switch for swapping that behaviour.

i can't remember off the top of my head which the Push is expecting, and there is no setting for it. this means that some pedals won't work without a hack, e.g. a M4L patch that swaps the behaviour.

this is all covered in another thread somewhere...

found it:
