Note that it's not a seperate manual, but it's own chapter in the manual. Saw a few people were having issues finding this though, so figured I'd link it for you. WEll worth a read.

I don't know what it is, but after upgrading to Push2 , the difference in workflow is night and day. Its like they programmed the manual into my head without me reading it (i hardly used the original push because i was too lazy to learn it)

I'll admit I agree completely. I liked Push 1 and thought the idea was solid, but I always felt like I was hunting around to find what I needed. Push 2 is dead simple on that front I think, the reorganized parameters for devices and clear way you can tell when you're in Racks, etc really makes it a lot easier to just get things done.

I concur. Poking around in Push2 is actually enjoyable. On the Push1, I mainly just used the Pads and whatever parm was on the row for the knobs, or I for sure put EVERYTHING in a group so I could map the knobs. Now, I don't really mind hopping around and finding the parameters I want. I'm still fumbling a bit, but also happy accidents are teaching me along the way.

I hope they'll update the downloadable PDF manual soon. Chapter 28 in the currently downloadable one is still about using the APC controllers.

I am still just finding my way around push 2 but I still find myself going back to the computer out of habit from push 1
Has anyone managed to work with push with the computer stowed? Like in some machine videos?
It seems possible it would be like working on a super sweet hardware MPC type thing on steroids!

Just put the computer away and force yourself to only use push. If you keep the monitor open you will go back to it out of costume of course. There are going to be limitations using only push but it is better to ignore them, progress until you have laid down all the ideas you want and then go back to the computer for editing/mixing, etc.

Trying to overcome limitations is a distraction to actually making music, Push ha enough functionality to finish a track, that's its strenght.

Try to think of it not as a computer but as an external groove box. Take it for what it is, use Lives native devices and go to town, accept the limitations. Push 2 is light years ahead of the first version, I hated working in this mode on the first but love it on 2. Create, jam into arrange, then edit on the computer later. Replace some sounds if you want, edit, re-mix. The point is you are using the device as an instrument to get ideas that you wouldn't with the mouse and keyboard. You may just find that you want to change very little and that hyper edit perfectionist mentality mode may not even be needed.

The only thing really stoping me from doing that is not being able to create chains in racks
And clip envelopes in audio clips I think as well
Other than that I am full steam ahead on push the second!

Totally agree with previous comments, i find it easier to get around and far more pleasurable to use than Push 1.

Well done to Ableton HQ!

One thing that still bugs me about the Push, even in its latest incarnation, is the lack of access to Record Quantization.
I would love it if someone contradicted me!!

I never got to use the first Push honestly I didn't know it was a thing, but Push 2 is insanely intuitive for learning a basic work flow, I can make a beat that would normally take me hours to make in 15 minutes. Its absolutely crazy.

Sometimes I think this product is from the damn future.
