Push 2 not recording MIDI correctly, am I missing something?

Push 2 observation: I found that when I record MIDI hits with a custom drum rack it will record the triggering but not provide visual feedback aka it doesn't show up on the Push 2. This isn't the case for the Push 1, this process works flawlessly. If you use a stock drum rack this issue does not occur from what I've seen. Has anyone experienced this and/or willing to try this experiment? It could be isolated but that would be a pretty big issue in the firmware if this is the case. Or I'm a complete idiot missing something really simple, very possible.

My guess is, that you don't have the power chord connected and the leds are just too dim to be shown without additional power.
