I don't think it had anything to do with the Push 1 driver. Although it seems that both Push user a generic Windows Midi USB driver, they are both labeled differently for both machines, which leads me to believe there is no conflict.

Aside from completely upgrading my Windows 7 with the latest patches, I also made some changes to the system services I had disabled in the past. I basically followed the guides from the Black Viper website and made sure I had the services running that the website labeled as 'safe' for Windows 7. May be worth a try to check that too.

When you press the pads on Push, does the MIDI light flicker in the corner of the Live window?

What happens if you turn the orange toggles next to "Ableton Push 2" (under the columns "Track" and "Remote") off and then on again, what happens?

Pressing the pads make the Midi light flicker indeed, acting all normal.

Toggling the orange buttons in track/remote doesn't do anything.

Also updated everything for Win7 now, but that didn't help.

Fun fact: when marking the Push 2 as a Push 1, there are a couple of functions that behave properly. (i.e. chromatic keyboard playing, however display does not work)

On my machine, when Push is connected normally, it shows up as three distinct devices in Device Manager:

1) "Ableton Push 2" in "Sound, video and game controllers"
2) "USB Compositite Device" in "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"
3) Either "Push 2 display" or "WinUsb Device" in "Universal Serial Bus devices."

Ableton says that the last of these should not be showing up as WinUSB Device, but it seems to work either way. I don't understand the distinction.

If I enter control-comma and select MIDI, I get a device type of "Push2" associated with "Ableton Push 2" for input and output. There are track/sync/remote boxes below that for "Ableton Push 2 (channel 2);" all of those are OFF.

If this is the case on your machine as well, and turning those boxes on and then off again doesn't make Live connect to your Push 2, then I wonder if something became corrupted in Live's internal configuration. I'd suggest uninstalling Live completely, removing the folder in which you installed it if it's still there, then reinstalling it. (I do not believe you will have any problem reauthorizing it because it's on the same machine as it was on before).

If that still fails, I'm out of ideas and you'll have to contact Ableton support.

1) "Ableton Push 2" in "Sound, video and game controllers" shows correct for me
2) "USB Compositite Device" in "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" it's probably there in its place, among 50 other USB Compositite devices with the same description
3) Either "Push 2 display" or "WinUsb Device" in "Universal Serial Bus devices." this just wont install/configure, and sits at 'other devices' (not sure about translation)

Also, ive reinstalled Live a couple of times, but no result.

I've sent an extensive email to support. Let's hope they got a solution for this.

But thanks a LOT for all your effort. Really appreciate it :)

If I get to solve it, will post it in this topic later.

Good.

Easy way to tell: Count the number of USB composite devices, connect (or disconnect Push 2), count again.

3) Either "Push 2 display" or "WinUsb Device" in "Universal Serial Bus devices." this just wont install/configure, and sits at 'other devices' (not sure about translation)

It is probably hunting in Windows Update for a suitable driver. You can be sure by clicking the dialog box that pops up in the system tray telling you that the driver is being installed.

If you turn on "Show nonpresent devices," you may be able to right-click the device and uninstall it; then try again.

Have been calling support 10 times during the day without luck. Also no response by email. Hope they can fix it before the weekend, or I'd rather have my old push back for now :)

Don't even get me going with my issues with Push 2 and my Windows PC.

I have had Push 2 for two weeks and every time I turn open Live 9.5 and then turn on my Push 2, Live hangs and a message comes up that says the program must close. I was on the phone with tech support in Berlin for hours and they couldn't figure it out. I then contacted a local Ableton tech support specialist and he remotely took over my computer to try to fix the issue and could not. I have done everything under the sun with no luck. Now I am hearing that other Windows users are having issues.

I even upgraded my operating system from Windows 7 to Windows 10 as most people have suggested. Still....no luck.

Ableton now says I should wipe my C drive and clean install Windows 10. I'm just not willing to do that for Push 2 when I have a perfectly functional Push 1. However, I would LOVE to get Push 2 working with my system!!

I did get an email from Ableton today to make sure I update my graphics drivers. I haven't done so yet, but I will report back if that fixes the issue, which I highly doubt it will.

This is definitely a Windows driver issue that isn't playing nice with a conflicting driver. It's creating a perfect storm with Ableton and blowing up every time I try introduce the two.

If anyone can offer a suggestion, I would really appreciate it!

This is an Ableton 9.5/Push 2 issue, I am convinced; the crash is fixed in the bets 9.5.1b1 (at least for my system). However, all the 3rd party templates are trashed, since the update to beta introduces Python 2.7.

I just checked again, and Live 9.5 crashes as usual with Push 2, and Live beta does not.

Although I'm running Win10 Pro x64 I have the same problem with Push 2 - it is a SERIOUS crash in Live 9.5. I just checked my graphics drivers, and they are (and have been) up to date.

Support did a couple of suggestions, but these did not work.

I've installed the latest beta, and magically that one works. It probably has something to do with antivirus.

Anyway, i'll stick to the beta then. At least i can use this great toy now.

I doubt it has anything to do with antivirus. I did a minimal boot from msconfig, and it loaded the drivers, but Live 9.5 still crashed with Push 2...

And if it does, it STILL is a serious bug in Live 9.5..
(OTH, Live 9.5.1b2 still doesn't recognize my Maschine Stufio control surface, although Komplete Kontrol is recognized. (The Midi I/o is fine for both units, however).

The new Push 2 display stuff is made with Qt and the QML framework. I wonder if there is a missing dependency that Ableton needs to address.

Then again, as I mentioned earlier, my stuff started to work after I updated Windows 7 with the latest and greatest, and it is still working properly.
