Sounds like a dud if it's just that one pad. Contact support@ableton.com and they'll help get you sorted.

Surely this one is a test of patience, or a little prank? :)

Ah well...I chuckled at least.
Those Germans have a sense of humour after all! :P

To Ableton:
In any case - PLEASE UPDATE US!! If you have a bunch of engineers working on it, surely one of them can just post every week or so about how far along they are. We don't bite. It would certainly help to ease the mind of those reminiscing about their Push 1. (not me! :P)

Well the release of 9.6 made it worse really with their so called temporary fix!

Seriously peeved off, as I have to litteraly smash on the pads right now and still not able to reach 100% velocity!
So I feel like they made it worse now.

They better come up with a final solution soon, as my patience is really being tested right now.

The Push 2 is not Pocket change! It's a very expensive Controller and right now I am really starting to regret buying it. :(

I sometimes wonder what the reviewers are on when they write what they write:

Music radar review from January:

http://www.musicradar.com/reviews/tech/ ... h-2-632478

For many users, though, it'll actually be the new pads that most justify the upgrade. Push 1's pads were great, but these really are something else. The RGB backlighting is better distributed and perfectly consistent – gone are the uneven whites that plagued many users – but more importantly, they're an absolute dream to play, being fabulously responsive across the velocity range and demonstrating none of the variation between pads often noted with Push 1.

I swear a placebo effect took place there due to the pads looking nicer. Or crack.

In any case, I can wait for the fix, not too bothered at the moment - I just find these reviews a bit grating.

Most reviewers are sadly always like that. Especially when it's their living, as they are too scared to be "too" Critical, as that they might loose getting send freebies.
They depend on the manufacturers sending them review units to review and sadly, in the past we have seen cases, where "too" Critical reviewers were dumped instantly and ended up out of a job afterwards.

The only reviewer who you can still trust is Sonicstate. Suprise or not, they haven't reviewed Push 2 yet.

I believe **THE ISSUE IS NOT WITH THE MECHANICS OF PUSH2**, it is with the sound pack!!

Here's my experience ...

For me the is very noticable when I'm using the Guitar sound pack (the default as well as the extra ones that comes with Suite & happens with Bass as well).
I noticed that the pack itself is made up of a bunch of sounds .. one of them being Dead Sound.
Unless I REALLY MASH the pads I end up getting this *dead sound* which I think is supposed to sound like a pick strike on a muted string.

********************************************************** PLS IGNORE ***************************************************************************************
***************************** everything below this line (in my post). It's redundant and formed through faulty understanding *******************************
*************************************************************************************************************************************************************

ABLETON GUYS! This attempt at fidelity totally STUFFS the playability of the PUSH2 when using these sounds.
I suspect if I can work out how to replace the wave sample of the *Dead Sound* with the normal guitar sound it will fix the issue.
I should be able to gentrly stroke the pads and get a decent guitar sound ... at the moment I have to apply tektonic force by the power of 10 and this absolutely inhibits nice fast runs and frills.
Please fix ... with some sound packs it's unplayable as an instrument.

I think people just play Push differently too, it's one thing I've learned talking to other Push 2 users during testing. For me, P2 was WAY better instantly than Push 1, it definitely was not placebo as I can play them both side by side to compare. This is with the multiple units I have used of each version, so it's not like I got lucky with one unit or something.

I do agree that the new update takes a bit more force for higher values, but they've already said this is in interim fix to alleviate the max velocity notes people were having before. I didn't think that update required that much more force personally, noticeable, but only like 5-10% for me.

Hi Erik, what sound pack you're using for your testing? I'd be very curious if you have the same view when using the Guitar sound in Guitar & Bass soundpack. Can you play this pack fluidly and fast? I can't but can with the Grand Piano sound pack.

This is why earlier I mentioned there's a component called *Dead Sound* (or similar .. I'm @ work) that seems to trigger sometimes & coincides with me not getting the expected guitar sound. I do get the sound when I tap VERY firmly on the pad. Much too firmly and not consistent enough to be able to perform a fluid guitar like solo.

I don't use any specific packs for testing, my comments are from months of use writing and releasing music. If you have a specific preset from the guitar pack you're having issues with, let me know and I'll take a look at it for you. Since a lot of these packs use simpler or sampler, you can always go in an fine-tune the velocity response for your playing style too.

Hi Erik, I appreciate your help, thank you. Here's what I mean;

First the sound withe the dead sound .. this pack reuires a lot more force on the pads, with inconsistent results

The following pack has no Dead sound triggers and works well;

I just messed with those presets, and I think they work exactly as they should. The dead sound is like a muted string sound you get when perhaps not fretting or picking the string hard enough, thus it only sounds with extremely low velocities. The opposite is true of the slide samples, they only trigger with really high velocities.

I don't see this being an issue with Push or the Pack, it's just using velocity to switch between the sample types giving you a range of sounds in one preset. You could always just change the velocity mapping of the dead sounds to 0 if you like that preset but not those partciular set of samples.

My Push 2 settings are usually set to 8-7-8 FWIW.

It's not just the Ableton packs, as I hardly use them, except the drum kits.

For synths I use mostly the NI stuff and my hardware (Microbrute and JU-06).

Erik you're a genius, You've taught me a bit more about how Live and Push work and I've tweaked the velocity settings to be much lower.

I'm new @ Push and Live as you've probably guessed ... and loving it too. Happy camper :)

Another Ableton Beta released without a fix for this issue.
