The inherent unreliability of a camera exposure was irritating me so I decided to make a quick video to let you compare your own with what I'm seeing, this time with my desktop, in case it made a difference.

As you can see, it's noticeably brighter plugged in but when unplugged, it's still brighter than Push 1 and absolutely useable for portability's sake...

that seems about the same as mine,
what i noticed most when i first got it was that i thought push 1 was more usable with the ac disconnected, never even used it even in daytime.
But now that i see you're video i feel mine is about the same, i just feel anxious about the slight possibility that there is indeed a difference...

Unsure, but if there is a power cap to usb they should all be the same right?
And if not, a firmware hack would be able to boost the overall brightness but just draining more power in the process.

Will try some different situations coming days, usb hubs etc, also getting a new laptop somewhere soon so will try to do some a/b then

Hmm that seems perfectly useable.

Here's mine without power supply, in a dark room with only one corner lamp on. It is not as bright as Push 1, but perfectly useable. If you were to go outside in the daytime you won't be able to see anything though. Also, the pic below makes it seem brighter than it really is. I'd say for those who like to lounge on the sofa in darker rooms would be fine to use without power:

Good, I'm glad there isn't a huge variance between people's units and apologies if the earlier photos were misleading.

I must say I'm surprised. The Sound On Sound review was quite unequivocal about the fact that you would need AC power for this to be useable and I think I was told the same on here when I asked. Of course, one man's useable is another man's hopeless, so I suppose I'm just pleasantly surprised to discover my couch-based slumposition can continue as normal.

Goes to show how subjective these things can be I guess.

I use mine almost anytime without the power ac, works fine!

killer combination with a laptop, just lay on the couch with the push on your lab and put the laptop away, 8)

Does changing the pad brightness settings have any effect on the usage without power?
