Shove - Utility for Push 2 and other DAWs

Post by j0nt » Tue Jul 05, 2016 7:24 pm

Hi folks,

I wanted to let you know about a new software utility I created for playing Push 2 with other DAWs.

Shove for OS X and Windows
On sale now for only $9

You can purchase from my website, http://silenceandsound.com or directly from GumRoad, https://gumroad.com/l/shove

Features:
  • Use In Key or Chromatic mode (in 4ths)
  • Play all of the scales included with Push 2
  • Switch the touchstrip between pitch bend and modwheel using the Shove GUI or the “Fixed Length” button on the Push 2.
  • Change the touchstrip in modwheel mode to send CC1, CC2, CC5, CC7, or CC11
  • Select different colors for root notes and the LED buttons
  • Control the overall brightness of the pads and buttons
I basically wrote this to solve my problems with Push 2. I plan on adding more features if there is any interest in it and I'd love to hear suggestions about features to add.

If you have any questions/problems/suggestions, email me at support (at) silenceandsound.com.

Cheers!

Awesome! Thanks for doing this, I've been waiting for something like this since getting push 2 a few months ago. I do work in other daws and playing push with all the lights off and not in fourths or fifths is just not feasible.

Hey you're welcome. Glad you like it.

I completely agree it isn't feasible. I love using Push 2 in Live but I jump between DAWs too. I remember trying it for the first time in another DAW and the pitch bend was unusable b/c it was sending a low note (C-1) every time I pressed the touchstrip. :?

Bought it, used it, and I really like it. Was about to buy a launchpad for Cubase before this because I was so frustrated. One thing, though, any chance you can include the octave up and down functions in another release?

Oh man I've been waiting and waiting for someone to do this. Bought. Shared on other forums. Thank you so much

I haven't tried it yet but I assume no mapping yet? (since it wasn't specified)

If you continue developing and adding features I will happily donate again. And again. It's just such a bummer to have this magnificent hardware and not be able to use it in my other DAWs
Win 10 Pro
Ryzen 9 3900XT
UAD Apollo/ART Voice Channel
Ableton Live 10/Cubase 10.5
Push 2/Moog Subsequent 37

@Precisionguided: Octave pad functionality will be added for sure. It's actually next on the backlog.

@Razz CE: Thanks for buying man and thanks for sharing too. That's right, no mapping features yet. Next up is more functionality assigned to the buttons. Octave Up/Down, Play, things like that. I keep reaching for them and realize they don't work yet.

Just gave it a spin, didn't have any issues running it on el capitan&logicX- nice....

A few caveats:
- no basic instructions on how to operate (not how to setup) and i think it's crucial you add those on ur site and also include a pdf with the download.
- it should automatically turn on when starting shove or since u have a ON button, it should also have an OFF button (as of now when shutting down shove the push lights stay on)
- it doesn't remember the previous setup! even after setting it up in logic and saved it as a template, after shutting down shove&logic, then restarting them and opening the saved template (in logic) it does not remember its settings.

I think once you get these sorted (unless only i'm having these issues), it'll be a nice app.

Thanks for the feedback rekloos. All fair points for sure.

- I do have a page on usage actually - https://www.silenceandsound.com/using-shove. I guess it's not easy to find? A PDF will be included in the next update.
- Yeah I'm not a fan of the On button. There are some technical reasons for having that which I haven't tried to solve yet. I'll definitely take the Off button/clearing Push lights idea into consideration. I've just been power cycling Push to reset it. So I guess there is a physical Off button. :)
- That's correct. Shove won't remember it's settings after you close it. Saving settings is high up on my list of features to add so it's coming.

Wow, it's been a while since I originally posted this. I wanted to let folks know that I've continued development on Shove and have just released version 1.3.

I've added a few new features like making the encoders usable. I've also added a Drum Pad mode and another mode called Linear mode that was requested by a user.

Thanks to all who have purchased it and made suggestions.

I made a little walkthrough and set up video showing Push 2 in use with Cubase using Shove 1.3

Hi there,

This looks great. I was wondering if you knew if it was possible to assign the touch strip to act as the volume control for whichever channel is selected in Live? Thought this would be so cool, sort of like the presonus faderport in function but all built into the push 2!

I was also wondering if your script allowed you to bank 8 channels at a time on the push 2? I can't seem to find anything out there which allows me to do this, unless I am missing something really obvious?

Thanks for all your hard work on this dude.

Best,

Luke

This is fantastic. I just sent you an email asking if it works with FL. Thank you for this awesome tool. Also, I like how its called "shove". As in, "push comes to shove" xD
