With the advent of Live 10 and me liking several of the new (long overdue...) features, it looks like I'm staying with Live to complement my Bitwig 2 that I used exclusively for the last 5-6 months, therefore I thought I might as well purchase Push to go along with it.

So, my question is - do you think Push 3 is near on the horizon? Or is buying Push 2 now safe?

When I look at the new features offered by Live 10, I don't see anything that Push 2 can't do. Conversely, I see that a lot of effort put to enhance Push 2 experience in Live 10, adding clips view, graphical representation for Wavetable, Echo and EQ8, etc. I don't think there's anything that e.g. Maschine 2 or Akai's controllers can do that Push 2 can't? One possible avenue of development is MPE, but how would that work on buttons? By now it seems like the hardware is done and perfected, and they can enhance the experience further by software updates.

Is that the general consensus as well?

Should I go and buy Push 2 today? :D

when they launched the push 2 it was at the loop convention
which is only a few days away so i guess if it doesnt show up there then probably not
i think you should buy the push 2 its fantastic

Ableton 10 was announced last week showing enhancements to Push2, so no push 3 for quite a while yet.

I don't believe in a Push v3. The only thing wrong, I believe, with Push 2 is the dreadful graphics process. Note that I use an original Push, which I find to be absolutely marvelous.

I know what Push 3 will be!!!

Watching this video (https://youtu.be/0CdMvkBOUgs) it occurred to me clearly as a day: Push 3 will have Live integrated and won't need the computer at all. They'll maybe add a slightly bigger screen.

what makes you think so?
NI could have done that relatively easier since their Maschine reaches 100% of software functions from device whereas Push hardly covers 20% of Live (hard to estimate actually).
This is gonna be another MPC Live/X with Session view in that case which is far away from being a DAW.

Lots of promotional videos focus on how you actually can use it without ever looking at the computer and it's often being described as an instrument, rather than controller. I'm sure if it ever came out to be, you'd still be able to hook up to computer and transfer - or setup - your project in 'proper' environment, but as is it's already pretty self sufficient: you can add tracks, add instruments & effects, choose presets, tweak the, record to clips, then play them while controlling effects and mix. It's more like 60-80% rather than 20% :)

this gets into a very interesting discussion to me. i'm amazed by Push (2) and how it grows in terms of workflow improvements. still it lacks a lot of useful features and consistency across various aspects. hence i'm interested in people's perspective on what exactly Push is for them. this is where 60%-80% vs 20% appears. whereas it is powerful musical instrument rather than controller indeed, i find quite limiting in sound design related things by for example not being able to build instrument/effect racks with complex routing inside, move tracks, select I/O in External Instrument device (this is where inconsistency is), map parameter to m4l LFO (or anything of that kind); change time signature and obviously the whole arrangement part. i'm sure most of these things are to be implemented or improved in the future even in Push 2 though.

in a nutshell, despite of 'no more computer screen' thing i find myself turning to my laptop quite often anyway, which doesn't deny anything from what you said though :)

On average these types of products have a 4 year "active" life cycle and 10 year total cycle.

Its required by companies to generate new revenue from existing customers and we are all suckers for a new shiny toy and to be the first to use it. Push is also great for actually locking users into Live AND making them pay for it... Can't really register Push to work if you are using cracked software.

Push 1 is still not just supported but new features were even introduced for Live 10. Of course there are limitations with how much can be crammed in but it's still very much supported.

I think we are at least 2 years off a new version and based on the number of complaints about things I see in this forum (which are few to none really in the scheme of things) it's a pretty good unit. The issue of process load affects only a handful of users compared to the thousands out there and it could simply be lower speck systems or poorly maintained setups in some cases. I certainly have had no such issues and notice almost no extra load on my system with Push 2 on or off.

I’d say Push 3 is 1 to two years off into the future. Still, competitive forces will push (urgh...) then to innovate in response to the hardware movement. Here are some ideas in increasing complexity:

- Better screen with deeper integration to external PC based architecture. New controller types ala roli or KMI
- on board audio interface with some mic pres and outputs based upon external PC architecture.
- add MPE, wireless MIDI, more adapting to the hardware movement ((cv, din,) upon external pc architecture
- standalone Ableton in a box. Would this be Linux, mac, iOS, windows based? Maybe they should buy bitwig!

I'm suprised there's not been a price drop on push 2 yet seeing as it's 2 years old, I do want one but I refuse to pay 599 for something that originally retailed for 499 at launch in the UK.

I have push 1 so I think I'll hang on for push 3
