Got Push 2 and a bit annoyed with the new track mute system. Holding buttons in might be cool for the studio, but it's far too tedious for performing live.
I'm wishing I could get the grinder out and slice out the old top row of thin pads from the Push 1 and glue it to the top of the Push 2.....
Anyone think of a small controller that might be close to that? I really don't want any more than 1 row of LED driven pads, no sliders or knobs, and similar width to the Push. I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist but maybe I've missed one??

The only thing that comes to mind is the Korg Nanokontrol 2. It has faders and knobs but it has 3 LED driven buttons next to each fader and the editor is great and they are really cheap.

Damn, pads on the Novation launchControl XL look spot on. Anyone have a broken one they want to part with? Then I really could slice the bottom section off and wire the pads into and Arduino

You could map the Mutes in User Mode.
Edit: If you hold the mute button for a few seconds it gets locked.
