Mr Shine's live sessions

Post by MrShine » Tue Jun 09, 2009 12:53 pm

Every 2 weeks on a Wednesday @ 8pm I'll be doing a live show using ableton on www.kick106.co.uk.

This is a new venture and I'll be using my own samples and those provided by the program itself.

Everything will be done on the fly so as to what it will sound like is there to be discovered but it will be along the lines of EDM.

Facebook group is: http://www.facebook.com/groups.php?ref= ... 4102524571

Firstly a HUGE thank you to all those that attended the online show and my first Live session!

It went well i think, the feedback was very good and the hard work i put into the building of the set paid off ( 6:30 am this morning i went to bed! ) with positive feedback from those that were listening in.

I've uploaded the set onto my soundcloud page and you can listen and download from there for your own listening pleasure.

The whole set was done live with the arrangements of the drum loops, bass, synths, pads, keys and other interesting samples all done in real time as the show progressed.

This was a first and quite frankly, nerve racking experience but I'm so very chuffed with the finished result!

Please feel free to listen to it and give some feedback, and take into account that everything you hear was arranged and produced live during the show.

Thank you!

Footnote: Thank you to Tom Cosm who sparked my interest in doing this, catch the legend at www.cosm.co.nz Very Happy

Had a few listens to it this morning and here's my overall thoughts on it...

How do i feel about it? In places it feels abit disjointed..i think that was more to do with volume on areas as some loops were dominant and some not rather than having it flowing....the beginning was a nervous time...nearly 8 minutes before i moved away from the beginning loops into some sort of synth sound and that was abit basic.

There are some nice sounds from it all..some i could have done more with and some effects i should have perhaps toned down abit...nerves and the power of my PC were factors which played a key role in how it all sounded...live shows aren't usually a problem for me when i DJ with other peoples tracks, it's just a natural feeling, but this was different as i had to rely what ' I ' had produced to keep those listening interested...

Near the end i was getting into the swing of it...alot of the samples loaded for the set i never used..it is difficult keeping tabs on what i practised and that is a factor for future shows...keep it simplified to a certain extent and work more on what you have.... quality rather than quantity...

I still love to DJ in a standard sense ( vinyl/CD's ) but this is the most fun I've had in such a long time that I'm going to work on this more and more and i have set a target of 2 weeks per show...so 13 days to go till the next one :D

Thanks for reading and listening :D

I've also added comments to the soundcloud file as it plays...if you play it via the site you get a ' commentry ' by me as it goes along....how cool is that?

The Live Sessions are performed using Ableton with a selection of self made samples and others from the program...manipulating the sounds and launching of the clips provides an on-the-fly production lasting an hour, there are no limits to where the music goes or how it's constructed...i do what i feel is right at the time.

Live session 2 was performed firstly on Saturday in front of a crowd at a meeting dedicated to radio DJ's.

The second performance was changed slightly to reflect the weather (!) on Wednesday @ 8pm ( GMT ) on internet radio station www.kick106.co.uk.

This session starts off with a mellow feel then proceeds onto some heavier hitting beats and sounds.

Comments/feedback always appreciated

Listen here via Soundcloud and Downloads are availble as well.

Cheers
