Is my bass TOO heavy? (Dubstep)

Just uploaded newest track on soundcloud. A friend of mine who is a recording engineer/ mastering guy dropped by the other day and listened to some of my new tracks. He said my bass might be too overwhelming/could blow eardrums out. Im wondering if it just my subwoofer that needs to be turned down during mixing or if maybe i should tone down the bass track in general.

The kick has gobs of reverb that make is sound like it is at the other end of a huge gymnasium, but perhaps that is intentional. The synth that comes in at about 40 seconds does seem to have too much bass. Everything else sounded fine to me.

Listened through headphones. I agree, just the bass in the beginning of the song can be turned down a bit.

Agree, take down the bass volume a bit. It will leave more room to other elements. Listened with earplugs and they distorted.

haven't had a chance to yet, but everyone agrees bass is too loud. Im gonna start mixing w/ bass at like 1/2 or 2/3 volume and see how it goes... tried to take advice with newest song. http://soundcloud.com/jharling/dub-gun i will edit other song when i get a chance

try scooping out frequencies in the bass between 800hz-1200-1500.

i hate to sound like an idiot, but what exactly do you mean by frequency scooping? My guess is that it involves spectrum analyzer and maybe highpass lowpass filtering, but not exactly sure how to execute this. Does anyone know a tutorial or can anyone explain the jist of it so i can look further into it?

Not just hi/lo filtering but finding the frequencies that are stepping on other inst toes. Cutting some freqs with a narrow bandwidth will leave space for other inst to breath and come out clearer. Basically this is done with eq. Check this articale by Tarekith about mixing and do some searches on eq. There will be a lot of info out there.

use eq8, and put a little dip in that range.
