mac mini question

I have a mac mini g4 1.42 ghz with 512 mb.... the cpu gets pretty high and the audio begin to manipulate and freak out when i have like at least 6 different midi tracks (with fx). Instead of buying a new iMac would ableton work better if i installed a 1gb of ram? Just a thought.
