What is wrong with my TR-909 kick?

Post by Affiliation » Sat Sep 30, 2006 4:09 pm

I have tried playing with the tune, attack, decay, warp modes, eq, compression and other things. I can usually get better results, but here I dont know why but it just doesn't seem to fit.

Finished the track last month, but really want to go back and fix it. Dont know where to start...

To much low in it / to loud? Try a compressor on it?

Seems to be a lot of varying modulation and velocity on the kick, thats probably your intensions though... For a "deep style" style like this I would probably at least put some compression on it to balance it out...

There also seems to be another instrument occupying the low freq range as the 909, I would cut out the freqs the 909 occupies, on that other instrument(s).

i always put an EQ before the compressor on the kick and take out a lot of the mid frequencies. this helps the kick sound like its coming from underneath you
