Chill breaks with female vox
Chill breaks with female vox
Hello Abletonians,
This is my song Shelter. Composed and produced with Ableton Live 6, Halion, Access Virus Classic, Iblit and Yamaha A3000v2.
Difficult to describe its genre: speeded up triphop with female vocals? Vocals were recorded with Emu 1802 Sound card and Rhode NT1 mic.
Please let me know with you think of it. Any comment is welcome, yes, critical and negative too.

Ok sorry it was me it works.
I'll stick my neck out and give some feedback. its only my humble opinion, and its not the sort of music i listen to so ignore it, I'm also listening on the built in speaker on a G4 so really what the fuck am i going on about eh !?
The vocalist sounds a lot like the bird out of portishead,, great !! the strings etc in the background compliment it well, and i like the different reverb effects etc on the vocal coming in and out (after initial reservations) - The chords / vocal melody are also unusual enough to sound fresh. the intro (before the beat) is faintly reminiscent of inner city life by Goldie, which is a classic tune.
Then the beat and the arpeggio come in..
The beat is very mechanical. its sounds quite robotic, and quantized, and to be honest seems to be fighting the mood established. it's like you want the tune to 'kick in' at that point - but its a chilltune and not a dance floor filler so you could ease back, give it a bit more old soul smokiness, that nightmares on wax makes sound really easy !! concentrate on the beats make them slurr and swing a bit, and drop them back in the mix. maybe bring up the bass a bit to compensate ?
....thats it, make of it what you will.
cheers,

I agree that when the beat starts I felt like it was going to explode-- and get really fast but it didn't. So I would say to drop back the beat a little bit-- but overall I like it.
Hello Guy and Ltjam,
Thank you very much for listening and taking time to comment. Really appreciate it. The song used to be a lot heavier and I felt it would benefit from a more chillout feel. Seems I succeeded only partly...
Thanx again

Re: beautiful
love the ambience remind me on old LAMB stuff...very good sound 4 my feeling...
Hey Zenda, thank you. I really love Lamb. Even supported them with my band when they played in Amsterdam. Andy and Louise are really nice persons.
And yes, Portishead and Goldie are our heroes too.
Really liked this... lovely vocals!
Would love to check out your guys other music - can you pm me with a myspace or something where i can check out your other stuff?
Hi Steven,
Well, I've just created an memorial shrine on MySpace for my old band. There's some old stuff there. At this moment I'm working hard on new material. You've heard the first finished track on Ableton Forum.
Anyway, here's the link:

BTW Why can't I properly quote on this forum?
