1. load the plugin and GROUP it (is that 2 steps? lol)
2. re-name the rack
3. drag/save it into USER LIBRARY\PRESETS...anywhere in there will work
that's it!
in Push, browse to the relevant category and look for the sub-menu OTHERS. it will be listed there by alpha
also works for external hardware, just group an external instrument
this even works with those 32bit bridged relics you can't live without

if you're using 9.0.5...
you can also browse down to PLACES
tip: hold SHIFT while scrolling to get there quickly

Will this allow you to browse presets for the 3rd Party Plugins?

grouping a 3rd party plugin is essentially creating a preset, so yeah

cool tip!
though, just tried it. if i load massive, group it, rename it massive, i can then load/see it in Places (9.0.5), but don't see that i can browse massive's presets. am i missing something or not possible?

You can Browse 3rd party Plugs but not the Presets within them..

once Massive is open you're free to browse for presets there
seriously, it's only one more step to browse presets of whatever you load up (however, i am gradually creating separate Live presets of my faves)
i'm beside myself getting away from mousing around

I just tried this with a VST - and it is saved and browsable in INSTRUMENT RACK on Push.
The annoying thing is that the third-party VSTs seem to automatically go to the bottom of the list - ie. not alphabetical. It sucks having to scroll all the way to the bottom.
I also tried putting it in a few other places - but I still find the browser freakin' confusing!
Which is the best (ie. fastest to navigate to) location to store VSTs?

you don't get to choose
but if you followed instructions to the letter there are two quick ways to get to VSTs and they will all be alphabetical. (i added numbers in front of some to put them at the very top of the list)
as i said above, you can use [SHIFT + DOWN] to get you to PLACES very quickly or browse to OTHERS in any category
in most of the videos i have seen ppl are using the encoders to locate stuff...not nearly as fast using as the buttons
[SHIFT + UP/DOWN] is your friend

"Thanks sowhoso, that works great." I admit I'm confused about Live's file system? ..
The problem I'm having is after getting down to Places faster now, I have to scroll my tush off to the right to get to Instruments and then scroll further to the right to for VSTs before making a selection. Also when dropping a saved Group into User Library, it shows up there and in "Others" here and there. I don't mean to be moaning but the file system hierarchy should follow the priority of the User, especially now that
PUSH is in the picture. (Perhaps it does, but I can't see it) It gets blurry when you don't understand the structure. How can I get a grip on this so that locating my saves are easily found?

yup, that's why in the end i went back to using OTHERS, faster to get to and no need to scroll to the right
and i always use [SHIFT + UP/DOWN] buttons (never the encoder knobs)

drop/save groups into USER LIBRARY\
PRESETS (i'm assuming that makes a difference, haven't tested)
i'll describe what i see on my
Push screen...
first, OTHERS is for anything that is not factory or certain 3rd party packs, IOW user created:
- all grouped VST instruments appear under INSTRUMENT RACK\OTHERS by alpha (external instruments also appear here)
[SHIFT + DOWN] twice in the 2nd column to see OTHERS
.
- grouped VST fx appear under AUDIO EFFECT RACK\OTHERS by alpha
OTHERS is the 4th one down in the 2nd column
.
- grouped MIDI fx appear under MIDI EFFECT RACK\OTHERS
OTHERS appears at the top of the 2nd column
for whatever reason, drum racks are different. there is no
others category:
- user drum racks appear under DRUM RACK\USER LIBRARY
USER LIBRARY is at the end of the 2nd column. [SHIFT + DOWN] for quick access
(i very rarely use Simpler or Impulse and i don't have suite M4L)
TIP:
- i name my most used racks with a number in front so that they appear at the top of the list:
1 Kontakt 5
2 Alchemy
3 ZebraHZ
etc...

Thank you for taking the time to explain. This was very helpful and much appreciated. I have a clearer picture of what's happening here now.
Before I was saving my Groups to the Presets folder and then into the Instrument Rack within. Now drop/saving to the Presets folder and numbering did the trick and moved everything higher (To the top) in the lists. Much easier to locate now. .. I'm good to go!

For some reason, my custom drum racks do not appear in here - instead they appear in:
DRUM RACK > INSTRUMENTS
Is there a reason for this - or should I need to move them?

i don't have a folder named instruments under DRUM RACK in my User Library. you must have created that yourself
if it's not convenient for you, move your presets then delete that folder from PLACES
