Windows 7 - Issues when installing the Ableton Live Suite 8

Post by SteveP72 » Wed Nov 04, 2009 12:57 pm

Dear users,

I have experienced the following issues on Windows 7 32-bit

I downloaded the Ableton Live Suite 8.0.8 and unzipped it. First there were
some errors (CRC32 error failure). So I ran a chkdsk /f /r on all my disks
and man, there were some serious corrupted index descriptors etc..

However, after downloading the zip file again from Ableton, I could unzip the
setup.exe perfectly. I then installed the software (not using Run As Administrator)
and I got an I/O Error somewhere in the middle of the install.

Then I ran the setup.exe with Run as administrator and it almost went through
until the last 2 seconds of the install, I have another I/O Error.

Has anybody here experienced this behavior ?

Cheers

Steven

What are you using to unzip the file? Try downloading and installing winrar and then unzip the file with it.. Sounds like a zip compression issue, although im just speculating..

Hi Mdb,

Thanks for the advice but the unzip is ok now. It's the setup.exe that give me a hard time. I'm gonna run memtest86+ when i get home. See if the RAM in my PC is ok.

Some strange things going on with Win 7 if you ask me.

Actually, come to think of it.. I've had this before, but quite awhile ago. And if i recall correctly, that is indeed a memory issue. If you can try some other ram, or try removing a stick so you can find out which is bad, that might be your best bet tracking it down. I can assure you that windows 7 is pretty damn solid, but if you got a bad stick of ram, it will make any computer act funny. So you might want to RMA that RAM if you can and get the sticks replaced, otherwise its all headaches down the road.

Hi everybody,

Just an quick update.

It was exactly that. Faulty RAM. I removed 2 of my 4Gigs and then cleaned up the erroneous install
of Live 8.0.8 and the setup ran smooth. So tomorrow I'll buy some new RAM. I guess that Windows 7 64 bit
will install now correctly as well so that may be an even better choice.

Cheers
Steve
