Max4Live, Max4live Lite, Max4Live R/T. Which one are you?
There seems to be a lot of discussion on the forum regarding Max4Live and it's cost (suprise suprise). I think $299 is good value for what you get considering the cost of MAX/MSP with Jitter. My only real issue is that it's disproportionatly cheaper in the US than it is in europe (again suprise suprise)
One possible scenario is for the Cycling '74-Ableton collab to offer various levels of Max 4 Live.....
MAX/MSP/Jitter is $699, Max4Live with jitter is $299
MAX/MSP is $495, Max4Live lite without the seemingly expensive jitter objects for say $199?
MAX runtime is free, how abaout Max4Live runtime included in the suite and in MAX 5 and $50 otherwise?
I think this would attract the largest number of users and seems more in keeping with the current Cycling '74 and Ableton pricing schemes.
Personally I'm going to be buying Max4Live when I can afford it and if i can get it to run on my pc, as it just crashes at the moment. I won't use and don't need the jitter stuff though.
I'll be buying it from a US online store when I do get it, 'cos it'll be almost £50 cheaper.
Coments or thoughts welcome.

+1 on UK being victims lol.
Yeah i would love the runtime, even though im very interested in Max, it would take up all my time producing.
So for the mean time the runtime M4L would be very appreciated.

I think "victims" going a bit far but it does piss me right off when you see these kind of price differences.funky shit wrote:+1 on UK being victims lol.
There isn't a box, it's only available as a download, so I'll be buying from the US, the EU can go F**K itself.

+1 on a runtime free for suite owners, that would be ace

runtime should be free for everyone ... just as it is currently with Max/MSP

I'd pay $70 for a runtime version.
I've got some experience with Max, PD and Reaktor, but I'm really unsure whether I want to dive back into that again. It really got in the way of making music. That said, I want to be able to use my APC as a step sequencer, and I want more granular and loopshifting tools (as this is what I used to do in reaktor).
A runtime is exactly what I need - and I'd probably end up upgrading to the full Max4Live after a while anyway.

I will get M4L at some point I am sure, but my main reason will be to have access to the stuff other people create for Launchpad. I just don't have time right now to build my own patches. So, I would appreciate a 'runtime' with the option to upgrade to the full version later.

Re: Max4Live, Max4live Lite, Max4Live R/T. Which one are you?
A tiered approach to buying Max is by far and away the best way to implement this in my opinion. It would offer everyone access to the instruments that are made in Live, and would increase the exposure of the tool to a wider audience, thereby increasing its commercial gains for the companies involved.
Although this is only a small thing, I am a little concerned that if Max is not made into a runtime, does this mean instruments such as the step sequencer will now not be available to Ableton users? I have been wishing for an Ableton dedicated step sequencer ever since I have bought the software, but now it has been implemented via Max, does this mean users would have to pay £240 for it if they want one? Or is Ableton still going to continue developing its own instruments independently of Max?

While I'd like a free runtime for M4L as much as you, I can see that there would be little commercial reason to produce one. A low cost runtime possibly with some kind of upgrade path would generate an income stream for the developers and allow those who just want to play with stuff built by others to do so for minimal outlay.blackboab wrote:runtime should be free for everyone ... just as it is currently with Max/MSP
Don't really see why anyone should go mental over a friendly disscussion, though some people on here do seem a little sensitive.RAVE wrote:4/4 is going to go fooking mental reading this LOL

Talking of being sensitive, RAVE, you sig is not very nice, do you really think everyone here is a loser?

Why do people think they deserve free shit?
Do you work for free? If you do, you're grazing in a field of 'tard.
Why should Ableton/Cycling '74 work for free?
