from what i gather the ethos of what ableton wants from m4l is an "open source" type deal, (someone linked just recently to gerhard behles philosophy on this (can't find the thread)). locked patches, pay per use etc. seems contrary to this way of thinking. heck, even an m4l runtime seems to go against this (i.e. just using patches, not delving into source etc.). also as stringtapper pointed out paying for pathes seems silly without a lock function (i've not seen m4l at all btw). but mostly my point is locking patches, restricting use to payed clientele etc. to me seems to fly in the face of what i've read of what ableton want mfl to be.

p.s. please stop calling them apps, they're not applications, they're patches, big difference.
edit: whoopsie-daisy lost some of the original.

The max/msp/jitter community have been sharing/distributing/improving/evolving and sometimes selling patches & objects for years in an environment that encourages sharing ala creative commons. The paradigm here is SHARE and sell if you like.
Well, there are also quite some Max-externals that are not free. Also one might take into consideration that Max/MSP-Jitter is more used from 'non-profit' institutes and people (research, universities, art).
I think the commercial aspect in Live community might be more important than in Max community. At least to me this is a difference - is it research for what I get payed, or do I do music, dj-performances that I want to sell.

Of course others might not have such a categorisation or see it differently.

However I think, as already posted above, a shop with an open system like it is now, does not make sense. Donationware ....

Nevertheless I think they should implement a way to lock (edit-lock) M4L-devices ....

best

Reactor is a HUGE community simple because they supported people in getting recognition for their FREE ensembles.
Please, no App store! Ableton should not become Apple.

A much better way to do this would be to diligently keep a list of all the max patches.

I cant wait to do up some simple synths and share them!

There are millions of free apps in the apple app store :?

Either way, I think I will stick with Reaktor.

I guess you didnt read the whole thread. A store is just a database which has free and paid patches/apps/whatever

christ Rave, all this talk, did you even download the m4L beta? now you're pussying out for Reaktor? seriously?

they're called patches, not apps. this is just embarrassing.

the max/msp community already has something going. I hope max4Live follows their model and some the forum fuckwits that can't tell an app from a patch.

http://www.maxobjects.com/ <--- check it.
