Launchpad:toggle between automap and regular mode!

Post by dtlj » Thu Nov 12, 2009 4:46 pm

so i read about the fireworks trick with the launchpad(holding user1+user2+mixer then hitting down)
so i tried it out,
but i had automap on and discovered that the fireworks trick will toggle between regular live friendly mode to totally customizable automap mode, and once in automap mode you can move around with the launchpad buttons, dramatically increasing the launchpad's possibilities
then whenever you want just switch back over to regular mode,
make sure you have the automap midi drivers on in ableton

I tried the fireworks trick, didn't work. I have Live running is that a problem?

Heres some what $4mU3l wrote
Hold [session]+[user 1]+[user 2]+[mixer] and then [down/view], release [down/view] ensure to hold [session]+[user 1]+[user 2]+[mixer] until the fireworks launch... Happy LSD dreams! 8O
Proceed in the same manner to switch it off. Between each on/off cycle release and press [session]+[user 1]+[user 2]+[mixer] again before you press [down/view].
you can find it here:http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... 9#p1018749

Probably it'll work if you follow the steps, canT try it out right now..

Can anyone else confirm this "toggle" mode? I can get the fireworks on and off, but once you leave Live Mode, you can't get back into it. It just stays in automap mode, with the ability to turn on the fireworks or turn them off. I can't seem to get back into Live mode. The rectangle border dissappears and/or stays there, but can't get back in :?

if you do as they say but without using the mixer button so u press session + user 1 + user 2 then press down u can switch between Automap and live without the fireworks thing keeping all the visual feedback working i think :)

thanks, Zubben, yeah, that worked! But I couldn't resist the urge---must resist fireworks show---must resist-temptation of flashing lights----nope. I started the fireworks show and I got kicked out Live again

But yeah, it worked leaving out the mixer button, thanks!!!! :D

Sometimes after toggling the fireworks on and off, the Launchpad "sticks"... it's as if I'm in Live mode with the Session button held (so you're zoomed out and see an 8x8 grid in a single button). Pressing the Session button again then shuts off all the indicators, and the Launchpad no longer functions in Live mode (it will switch to Automap mode and work there, but the Launchpad still won't function in Live mode after switching back).

So far, it looks like only a restart of Live will clear it...

Oh, and you don't need the Session button to toggle between Automap and Live modes...

Press & hold user1+user2, then press the down/view button. Release all to continue in the selected mode.

peace.

Hi,

Does anyone know how to stop Ableton flipping back to 'native' mode everytime you exit midi map mode?

Basically the automap server goes offline if you turn the midi map on then off (using midi button top right)..easy enough to go user2 + down each time, but if it can be set otherwise its another workflow improvement.

Cheers,
LW.

It's a bug... i already sent an email to Novation, but I dunno if it's a Novation or Abletonbug. But I doubt that Novation will put much effort in fixing it.

Hi,

BTW if you use automap exclusively and you set that up in the prefs to be automap only, you don't get the server disconnect.

Cheers,
LW.
