Launchpad video from Anarchy Rice: How is this done?

Hey everyone,

I really love the launchpad, coupled with the nanoKontrol and Myr's python scripts, it really makes for a powerful control combination.

I'm looking to extend my launchpad fucntionality though, and have a video here:

What is going on here? It seems like there might be a step sequencer going on or something. Can anyone shed some light as to the techniques and methods that this performer uses?

there's a couple 'slight of hand' visual things going on with some legit techniques as well. likely there's some follow actions happening and maybe some IAC/ midi yoke routing to launch scenes that make the buttons appear launch in a sequence without him touching the launchpad.

what i'm saying is... he's added a little light show...

argh that lead sound is like a bontempi organ from 1983. Is it out of tune or something

I don't see any astonishing stuff in such vids. as some have said, follow actions, and multiple assignations can do lots of great visually impressive things with controllers that are able to receive incoming datas.


you can do great things with the follow actions, and a good learning time about midi assignations, midi controllers, midi remote...

Launchpad isn't any revolution, but yes it is a cool controller. (maybe I'll get one some day, but my padkontrol+farmpad does the job pretty well even if it's not so eye-cool).

btw, music in this vid is awful...

Its just bad bad bad out of tune music , the follow actions is nice though, and thats what music is all about these days, convincing people your a jedi god that can move things with his mind.

Nice control overall. Love that virus. I'm not digging the bass following those piano cadences at first, your motif that you recapitulate at the end. Not a fan of that at all. But very nice half way in. Unless you ninja'd one, you didn't touch the mouse at all. Good show.

I want to do a vid now. Did you use a nominal web cam? Did you mix sound into an .avi later? Or did you pick the audio up on native mic to whatever cam you used?

The sound is straight from the mic on the camera, so is a little thin if you know what i mean, we were recording straight in to live but when we checked afterwards it had stopped recording after about two minutes. You don't see me on the vid but it's my virus, my studio, our track. I freak if there is no smoke in the studio! lol thanks for the comments, this is just something we threw together in around an hour and a half and was the first time we had ever used the launchpad! we do a full set of around an hour and a half of all original stuff using two macbooks the zero 8 you see in the vid a zero 4, 1210's running through live and deckadance, live keys and all sorts of shit. Will be posting some vids of that soon, Oh and by the way, the guy on the post above i have checked your myspace, you really shouldn't diss people when your music sounds like that! lol Peace xxx.

are you saying that our music is bad or are we not using the launchpad properly?
