Problems with "Warp" for live shows

Post by Distant Earth » Tue Nov 24, 2009 2:05 pm

Hi, I'm very close to doing a first live set for Distant Earth, using Ableton Live and guitar, bass and a MicroKorg.

Of my live set (yes, I'm doing a Megaset using an APC 40) 8 of 11 tracks are okay. I like to use the "warp" and "loop" settings so I can make sections longer or shorted and set the tempo as I feel, like a real band, if you will.

The trouble I'm having is some of my parts are a bit syncopated and Ableton always warps them wrong and out of time. Is there a way to go in and fix that and if so, is it a pain? It's just weird playing guitar or bass fine for one section and then when you change the timing goes all funny. It kind of throws you.

I don't know if this is much help but have you looked in your Preferences and turned "Auto Warp" off? Also you might be able to change the default warping method.. Beats Mode would not be the greatest for guitar.. it slices things into intervals of note values or transients instead of granular stretching.

Mmm Do you know about the little save button in the clip view?

Once you warp something and save you shouldnt have to re-warp ever again. There is one exception if you end up re naming the file you have to rename the .asd file as well or it wont work.

Thanks guys. I'll try some of that.yur2die4, I think you may be right. It is Guitars (distorted) and sometimes Tamborine style Hi-Hats I've been having trouble with.

Open up the launch box on the clip and make sure you have global set for the quantization. Then check your warp markers on the track. Hope this helps!
